Player Draft League-4v4

Ok, so I had a pretty great idea, and while I understand most clans like to have a set roster...we all know that the league community is suffering...some clans have pretty stacked rosters, others are struggling to field a full roster...anyway to the idea:

The Player Draft:

Clans sign up for the league with their 2 established leaders. Players wishing to play in the league enter their name in to a pool, and the leaders select 6 players in 6 rounds to complete a roster of 8 people. The order of selection will be decided by random draw in the first season and based on record if the league survives to the second season (Worst clan selects first...best last...). Once each clan has successfully filled their rosters, any left over players will be entered in to an "free agency" pool. This pool will serve as a place to find players who can replace the inactive players on the current rosters. Clan leaders must release the waive the inactive players, and choose players ONLY from the free agency pool. If a player is new to FF or just wants to join the league, they enter their names in to the free agency pool and can be picked up that way. Clan leaders can only waive/release INACTIVE players, they will not be able to waive players that are active and want to play. If a player feels they aren't getting ample playing time, they can apply for Free Agency and depending on the leader, can be released in to the free agency pool, and that clan can pick up a player from the same pool. At the end of every season, players wishing to move on and find new teams will be able to do so automatically they will enter the free agency pool and will be either picked up in the draft or later in the season. If a clan has a full roster, and no player wants to leave, they will be exempt from the draft.

Obviously this is an experimental kind of idea...but I think it could keep rosters pretty even across the board. It would also give clans a chance to teach new people and establish a functional clanning community where the pub community is very important to it's survival. Teaching new players is going to be vital to this game because the learning curve is so steep. I know the current FYC^IGL has a hard time filling full rosters and often times the ringers that get brought in are better than the people they are replacing and that doesn't serve as a good learning environment. Anyway, feedback would be great.

the only thing i don't really like about that is if we have a enough "free agents" to form another team you might as well... not point having players able to play not playing.

I agree, I think that's sort of something you can work around...if you have say 4 weeks of a preseason...then at the end of the preseason if there are that many free agents then you could form an expansion clan and have those free agents join the expansion clan completing a full roster...but honestly I really don't see that many players being left on the market...if there are say 6 clans with full rosters of 8 that's 48 people, and I'm not exactly sure that there would be 48 people total to play. You would have to be careful tho and make sure the regular season schedule stays balanced with the number of clans you have...if you have 7, someone is going to get a bye every week. So maybe putting a lock on the number of clans until the next season would be another way to solve the free agent problem.

or you could have the amount of captains based on the amount of players.

I like that idea too...only problem is finding people who are suitable captains.

This wouldn't solve the server issue. Each team is required to have a 12 slot server minimum. So you would have to make server/owners captains then just pick the players or find a community server and have a rotating match schedule.

Well odds are that current UGC players/leaders would be named Captains and I assume that use of their server would be an option.

Thanks Satan, lol...

Obviously it could use some tweaks, but I think the league scene needs a face lift and to try something different. There's no need to continue trying to put a square block in to a circle hole.

I've been involved with trying this in multiple mods previously. The reason that it never works past the first week/round is that people flat out stop showing up, or can't have consistent schedules, don't like each other, etc... and it ends up only having less than a handful of teams able to play each week which can be done without a draft league.

There's none of that in our community, we're too full of love to even consider this as a reason.

Well...everything has been tried for FF besides this. People need to ditch the ego's and concentrate on the promotion of the mod, not their own retarded gaming resume. The reasons you stated are exactly the same thing going on without a draft. Couldn't hurt to try.
