<insert growling noise here>
Alright so as most of you know I've recently moved into a new place. I've been without internet for about two weeks. It was supposed to be turned on yesterday but the phone company claims it must be something with my lines. So now they are coming on TUESDAY to see what is wrong. And they are going to charge ME for it.
The video card came in three days late after FedEx decided they couldn't find my house. They've delivered there a million times. But this one time, they just had to go out and get lost. Now I have my ATi Radeon 9800 Pro 256mb but Steam decided it couldn't kick into offline mode anymore so now the only game I can enjoy on this card is C&C Generals, which doesn't really push the card very hard in the first place. *explodes* |

Its not too bad because before Generals would freeze up and sometimes go completely black. Now I can play it without any problems. I really want to see if my HL2 stutter problem has gone away now.

You know when I was without internet a couple months back I wasn't able to play HL2 SP either. I'm wondering if you need internet access to even play singleplayer, because on the game box it even says that internet access is required. Can anyone confirm this, or is it just problems that I'm having putting steam in offline mode?

You can play without internet. But you have to have Steam set to auto login first. After Steam logs in with your password saved you can go without internet. Sometimes though it gets confused and can take up to 20 mins to realise it can't login or update itself before kicking into Offline Mode.

What Sobe said. But it doesn't work for everyone either. Works for me, so I'm happy.
