Hl2.exe Remains Running After Exiting

This happens every time I get off Fortress Forever. It goes to desktop, has that blink as if it's exiting the whole exe, but when I go to processes in the task manager, it's hogging half my CPU. I have to manually end the exe once I'm done exiting FF. It's getting pretty annoying.

Anyone else getting this problem?

NVIDIA 7800 GS 256MB
Intel 3.2GHz Pentium 4
2GB RAM
Windows XP Media Center Edition, SP3

EDIT:
For an update, this happens when I exit FF when I'm in-game (in a server).

Do you Disconnect from the server first? Or just Exit while still connected?
Soulja boy was havin the same problem i think.

I always disconnect first, and haven't had a problem.

Yeah, this happens when I exit while I'm in a server. Though there's a way around it like you stated, this doesn't happen to me in other source games (HL2DM, CSS, etc.) and may be a problem with FF.

This has happened to me occasionally, it's not at the moment tho....strange.

Has only happened to me since 2.2 and only after release. Did not happen in the beta. Happens when I exit directly from the server to my desktop.

Rather annoying.

Yes i just started having this issue too, never before, not sure about other mod's yet, but there is a thread about it also in the steam forums. And from what i saw when i went to steam forums, everyone of them guys so far run WinXP sp3.

cpu amd 64bit 3200+ [2.2ghz]
Nvidia 6800agp 256MB
2GB ram
WinXP pro SP3

Is it the same typing "quit" as "exit"? I remember a TFC thing ages ago when quit and exit did different things.

Actually we are quiting from main menu. But since you brought that up im going to see what it will do, typing exit in console to quit game.

Yep, just from the main menu. While in game, hitting escape, and exiting to desktop.

This started to happen two days before installing the patch for me, so it might not be related to the 2.2 patch.

Have any of you tried setting the "quite Game button" in your keyboard options?

Thats what I use it closes the game from in game and sends you straight to desk top.
