crashing becoming a real issue

Im lucky to get through a full game without my hl2.exe crashing when im on ff

im running windows xp pro
amd X2 4200+
2gb ram
8800gt 320mb

all latest drivers etc its a fresh system, formatted a few days back and all ive got on my system is steam with FF, msn live messenger, AVG, spybot and muonline

crashes seem pretty random, i can have them after a few minutes gameplay or after a full map, im lucky to see a whole game through without crashing at least once however.

any input on this? is this a known issue with 2.1?

A couple things you can try..

- Disable Antivirus
- Run Windowsupdates (it's a new build so I assume you did this already)
- Disable custom decals (I think it's r_decals 0 and mp_decals 0 in the console
- Force a lower DirectX level for Fortress Forever (right click your shortcut, click properties, click launch options) you can try -dxlevel 81, 80, 70... not sure if there are others.

I used to have crashing issues and the decals and directx level solved it for me.

Good luck. Crashes are frustrating.

Send a message via AIM to redux
My newest nVidia drivers were causing crazy crashes with too much Anti Aliasing. Try taking down your settings, never know.
