Is that an old ballast with expanded steel welded into the inside, doors cut with an oxyacetylene torch, and mig welded supports?

Its an old 250 gallon propane tank, with a section from a 150 gallon air tank as the fire box. The supports for the tank were cut off, rotated 180 degrees and welded back on. This put the inlet nozzles for the propane on the bottom. Each lid is 2 feet 6 inches long

Yes, that is expanded metal, and yes it was cut with a torch and it was welded with a flux core welding machine - very good.

The cooking area is 6 feet 9 inches long and 29 inches across. The next project is to cook a whole pig on it.

I worked in a welding shop for 16 years before I got into computers.
