That's not what I meant. I thought the whole *SPOILERS* tag would hint at spoilers to the story so people who don't want to see them can skip past them. So, I'll ask again, could somebody please post exactly what the point is, story wise, in HL2. Do this with *Spoiler* tags. |

After the explosion in Ep1, you start off in rubble, and you go thru a linear path, to save Alyx, then you continue on to go to the white forest to help the resistance do something of importance supposedly to the story line, which in itself doesn't make sense because the plot, and conclusion of Ep2 begins and ends in Ep2 so it has little relevance to the overall story.
if this was an RPG you could consider it a side quest. yes it has SOMEthing to do with the storyline, but it doesnt add enough to make it. Episode 1 was way better then Episode 2, the middle child of the Aftermath series. the whole closing the portal ting yes, the rest of the game felt like it was a time filler. They had to launch the satellite to close off the portal to Earth. What the hell could be more important to the story than that at this point? I mean that may be the most important event in the HL2 series so far from humanity's point of view. They had to have the rest of the shit because if Gordon just appeared at the base it would be unrealistic and people would be ragging on it even more.
It would be really stupid if he unexplainably appeared at a missile base so while those traveling chapters are not as awesome as you like they are semi necessary. Oh ya and spoilers. EDIt the point is that, if every single chapter was a hugely exciting event with profound implications to the story the whole story would suck because it would just be one big flashy scene after the other. *spoilers*
They launched the missles to end the combine invasion. Not to mention all the stuf with the GMan. You learn that he saved Alex from black Mesa because Eli asked him to. You also learn that he brought and gave the material used in the black mesa test which caused the accident. This tells you that the Gman has got his hands in Alex in a possibly simaler way to how he hs you. You learn that the vortigaunts are starting to aid in your counter attack in a more cool/violent way. You also discover a new type of technology that may, or may not have unfornseen consequences which no doubt directly involve the Gman. Also, Adam Baldwin tells you were striders are. That's not the point of the game, but it's fun. I mean come on. It's Jayne! |

I thought it was pretty much obvious that being the middle episode it would never have a clear beginning and end?
