and no you do not need the tga's to view them...have you used hammer before?
If that was directed to me then yes, I have used hammer before. Most likely more than you.

I was asking a simple question, no need to lash back at me for not knowing everything inside and out about hammer.

I've followed your instructions, and put the folder in half life2/hl2/materials. I've then searched gambit in the hammer texture browser and it just comes up with this:

ok kewl....thats should be simple to fix..

did you place the "gambit01" folder in "C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\YOUREMAIL\half-life 2\hl2\materials"??

i know this is a simple question but the problem seems to be with the folder or the vmt/vft's being put in the wrong place...in other words...the vmt files or telling hammer that the textures or here when there not...thats why you see the checkers...

better yet can you post the extension to the pack where you put it?

few other things to check..

did you change the name of the folder "gambit01"?

did you pull out the vmt/vfts and place somewhere other than in the "gambit01" folder?

also when you open SDK or you mapping for HL2? or HL2M?...if its set for DM then you need to place the pack in this folder(i believe)

"C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\YOUREMAIL\half-life 2 deathmatch\hl2mp\materials"

This is where I've put the folder:

E:\Games\Steam\steamapps\<my account name>\half-life 2\hl2\materials\GambiT01\gambit01

I haven't renamed or moved anything whatsoever. I made sure I clicked Half-Life 2 on SDK

for HL2:DM I have this, D:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\<username>\half-life 2 deathmatch\hl2mp\materials, works fine for me, but I don't have the version you have yet installed.

ok got ya...you need JUST the gambit01 folder with the vmt/vtfs in it...not gambit01\gambit01\vmt&vtf's......

it should be e:\Games\steam\steamapps\<my account name>\half-life2\hl2\materials\gambit01(and in this folder are the vmt's and vtfs)

ok, i've noticed alot of you are using my textures in your maps.i didnt include normal maps at the time because i didnt know how. now i do. i noticed in a few SS's of y'alls maps that my texture's you used would look ALOT better if they were normal mapped(and make your map look better). so heres my question, would y'all like for me to make normal maps for my texture pack? if so, all of them? or some? if some, which ones?

it's much easier that popping up photoshop each time you want to look at a .vtf
maybe use the shell extention, it allows you to view the vtf files right inside your file browser
