ff_dropdown
Hey, the map's been added on the FF server so I've been able to conc and rj around which is alot more fun than running around in hl2:dm heh...
I took a couple of screenshots (approx 50) so you guys can see how the map looks at this stage. There's only the blue base right now and I gotta fix a couple things before I can duplicate and rotate the red base. I doubt I'll be able to work on it much during the next year since I'm leaving on a roadtrip around the whole America with my wife and I'll only have my laptop with me (which I don't think can run FF). Anyways, I built this map with league gameplay 9vs9 in mind so it might not be really fun for general pubbing, and since FF isnt out yet and leagues might take a while to organize, I don't think it's gonna be too late even if the map comes out finalized in summer 2008. I played this the other day, the mapstyle and theme is solid.
Though in my view there are a few things which I would change to improve the gameplay. The flag dropdown area relies entirely on lifts, lifts give players no option but to stand by a wall and be a target for defenders. This in my book is bad, ramps are a nicer solution as the attacker has more of a chance. The water in the dropdown area serves no real purpose and is quite a pain as it forces you to use a single ladder to exit on the other side of the room which again is pritty bad for gameplay. The area around security looks like its been designed to make it impossible to attack, security has a single ladder leading up to it any defence would make short work of anyone who ever used it. The platforms by security leading to the ramp to the upper level seem overly small a rocket on that path and an attacker cannot dodge its just too small. The lower entrance to the base is quite confusing, there are railings directly in the way of concing from outside. There is a very steap short ramp which pitches you sharply into the air if you hit it with any speed (read bhop/conc) and slows you right down. The railings act to funnel players into it making it even worse. The lower roof above the entrance means concing for security would have to be done past the entrance ramp, the soldier sat there will have a field day me thinks. |

Well the only way for me to give my true opinion is beta test it. So go ahead, hand over the files, server name, and password.

Thanks everyone for comments and especially own3r for his "analysis".
When I get back I'll get clans to test the gameplay properly and see if I should care to change major things or not. The fact is, some stuff might seem weird and unbalanced but it's nearly impossible to predict if it's gonna work or not. The base structure is too "original or uncommon" to tell. For example, the security area might look hard to reach at first glance but I'm pretty sure it's gonna be alot easier than it lets you think. Scouts and medics can easily jump the gab between the small resupply area and the security but slower classes cannot. That makes it harder for defense to get back into position. So it counter balances things out a bit. I'm not saying it's balanced for sure, I'm just saying it might be more balanced than somebody would think without testing it in real league play scenario. Another example, with the new double jump feature, you can get out of the basement's water by double jumping on the slanted side. So that's another way out besides the 2 vators and the ladder. About the ramp, it's not working properly, that's 100% right. It shouldnt be so steap. That's 1 of the things that's gonna get tweaking in the next compile. So anyways, I'm leaving tomorrow 5pm est for my big roadtrip, I'll surely log on and check things out from time to time for the next year. yeeeha! |

Can you get rid of that viewer bollox and just use the normal human way of displaying pictures?

8000km later
hey... guess what, there are soooo many unprotected wireless routers in North America lol anyways. Here are the news: We crossed Canada, east to west in 2 weeks. Then we went south and stayed 3 weeks in San Francisco. We are now somewhere between San Francisco and Los Angeles in a place called Cambria for the night. After that, we're heading to Las Vegas to see the grand canyon and to play some poker. Then we're gonna meet friends in Mexico and stay a couple days there. Then we take the road again and this time we won't stop until we reach our final destination, Argentina!! We'll probably be there in 2 or 3 months and we're gonna take an apart in Buenos Aires for something like 6 months, do some volunteer work there and take the time to really meet people and feel the place. At first we thought we would be coming back by road but I think it's gonna be much better to sell the car in Argentina and fly back home so that gives us much more time to stay in Buenos Aires. Anyways, after 8000km, my favorite place is definately San Francisco. And the west coast drive in California, omg... freakin beautiful... I'm so gonna do that road again, but with a motorcycle this time.
So yeah, about the map, the next update will be in at least 10 months from now cause all I have is a laptop that doesnt run HL2 right now and I won't be buying a PC in Argentina. When I get back home I'll make sure to release the map. Cheers! |
