In flames then? Why don't you try listening to all kinds of metal too and see if you don't get into other stuff besides melo-death. I'm not dissing the genre at all, I enjoy it.

P.S. Try Opeth.

I take that back. A lot of shitty, shitty bands have ruined my faith in most genres. Genres are such a pain in the ass... a band well-known for one genre suddenly branches out and does something else... is it still genre a? Is it genre b? If it's genre a, how would someone who likes genre b find it? If it's genre b, will that confuse fans of band a who only like genre a?

So to hell with the whole thing.

Bands branching out to other genres are progressing... Fairly easy to categorize if you think about. And these genres aren't really supposed to absolutely 100% accurate either. They're supposed to give people who ask what that band plays a general idea about it.

That's at least what I feel about it.

My gear burnt down in a fire...

I had:

-A nice 4-string fretless with active electronics and monorail 2 bridge.
I think it was a Wal.
-Ibanez 5 string... I think it was an EDB series, active electronics (I had a fretless neck for that one!)
-Gobs of spare parts, instrument cables and some machinist tools (I like setting my own action), tuners, bridges, even a kit for making your bass headless (includes new neck)... soldering iron and wiring schematics, a router, and various paints/finishes(the paints didn't burn down... I sold them to a tech I knew in Seattle, the paints were at my house during the fire)
-A 1988 Fender Jazz Bass that I was routing out to put some Thump Series
Pickups in
-A BC Rich guitar
-Schecter 7 String guitar
-A few various copies of famous typed guitars... worthless but fun to mod
-A small Crate practice amp
-Mesa Boogie 2x12 guitar amp
-Ampeg 6x10 stack with a really neat modded head (a refurbed blown Eden with various new parts soldered in)
-A power conditioner
-Various Boss effects (something like 9 or 10)
-Original Ibanez Tubescreamer
-Crybaby Dimebag Wah pedal
-Buddha bass wah
-this bass synth from the 80's that I liked toying with
-1968 Takamine acoustic

Bear in mind *sob!* that all of that burned down in a fire...

I now have:

-Martin Diamond Series 12 string guitar
-Ibanez SG100 bass
-One of my BC Rich guitars (a pos... but its mine!)
-this stupid multi-effects pedal a friend gave to me
-2 instrument cables

I would have too! ...I was in Oregon, and a little too trusting of my "friends" at the time.

No...

There wasn't anything I could do, legally, besides sueing the idiot that left the cigarette burning. I wanted to break his legs and his hands, because he was already uglier than me. And I am the ugliest sumbitch you ever seen. That was over 2 years ago now. I let it go, and I now live over 3000 miles away from him, so I don't have the urge to go and break him in half.

Besides, if I got violent on him, what kind of example would I be setting for my kids?

My wife said that... damn her sometimes. She said if I hospitalized him she would leave me, because she doesn't want my boys thinking it's okay to brawl over material posessions.

But damn! Those instruments saved me many-a-year of sexual angst as a teenager, and that 1968 Takamine was my grandmother's.

His pride and joy car?

Well... that would've been nice, but the problem is: The idiot that started the fire was on SSI/A, and GAU. Which means he's a fruitcake that lives off the government teat. But I still have friends who are aware of his living situation, and should it improve dramatically, they're calling me to collect.

You see how tied my hands were?
