Did I just fool Steam into doing 2 things at once?
Although this probably isn't too miraculous and rather common knowledge, I've never heard of it happening and it just happened to me for the first time.
I was reinstalling the Dark Messiah demo, and I wanted to play Defcon(pretty good game btw)and then that thing pops up telling me that I had a Steam application running and it showed the little Dark Messiah installation window. It actually said "Play Game" so I click on it. Got past the startup cinematics when it apparently freezes. I ctrl+alt+del and end it. Then suddenly Defcon starts up. Before it launches, I see that Dark Messiah is at 8%. I played a game of it, then when I quit, it was at 63%. Basically what I'm saying is, why does Steam only allow you to run one application at a time in this circumstance(installation)but not let you play a game, when it is entirely possible? Also what I'd like to know is, how did I get it to do this? |

steam is just a retarded client that doesnt care about you and will do as it pleases. same applies for downloading a game, and have it count backwards from 100% to 1%, dont ask. as i have no idea why it was doing this when installing Day of Defeat.

Steam is actually a pretty smart client in the fact that you've got some very nice multithreading. Its one of the neat features about it. You could actually start playing some of the game before their even completely downloaded. Its sort of like a preview thing that comes with most peer to peer software.
