Going down ladders...
w00t first thread
anyways... This game is pretty new to me (didn't play TFC alot... I got blown up as soon as I took that one step outside respawn). Going up ladders is hard enough (You go up so fast, most of the time I just fall off from looking at the wrong direction), but how do you go down (from the top) without just jumping off and taking fall damage? Because when I was at low health, I didn't know how do go back down ladders so I jumped off and then (you guessed it) I died from fall damage |

Basically you would have to jump onto the ladder...
Facing the ladder jump down the whole, while holding forward on the ladder. Then once your on the ladder you would need to essentially 'look' down and hold forward...you *should* walk down the ladder this way. Although honestly if you are that low on health I would suggest you just stay on the level you are on or head for a resuply!

You can also look for any nearby water as when you land in water you wont get hit with any fall damage. Like the roof of well if you need to get down in a hurry I suggest jumping for the water and then following the tunnels back to your respawn.
That doesn't work in every level. But it's something to be on the lookout for. Otherwise Sata gave the best advice just face the ladder on your way down and if you're falling/jumping press the forward button. You have the ability to control yourself while you're in the air to a small degree. |

Also if you play as a Spy, crouch and you don't take damage

You can duck and look down to go down them. The fastest way is to just drop off and grab the ladder right before you hit the bottom though. That way you avoid falling damage.

in TFC, strafing up ladders was faster than just holding forward to move up them.
I seem to think it's faster in FF too, but no comformation and im too lazy to test it. I strafe up all ladders anyway. |

Definately is faster, only slightly though =) (Or maybe my eyes are being wank again and I can't tell the difference, who knows.)

The only time it was really useful, that I can think of at least, was on shutdown2. If you did it right you could come from under the ramp and reach the flag without the SG locking on to you. I always thought that was a bit cheap though, to be fair.
Going down ladders, now that was never useful, unless avoiding death from fall damage. |

lol yea, thats how i used to get in the FR as scout.
Ladders were only really useful if you were say a HW guy and didn't want to get knocked about a bit. Don't think you can do that in FF. |

I just jump off the ledge, do a midair turn and grab onto the ladder then run down that ladder until I get to a reasonable height and then jump off.
