Help!

Is there any way to get around the store location system of iTunes? I'm trying to buy an album but it's only available on the UK store so... any ideas? Is this a case where piracy is the only option?

I usually buy the actual CD/DVD from a store within the country it's available in, and have it shipped to me. Generally, they have no problem shipping out of the region, just as long as it's sold there.

Try amazon and see if they have it.

People who purchase their music directly from the artist.

I do.

FT, try Amazon.co.uk. I order crap from there from time to time, they've got some stuff that Amazon.com doesn't show. They'll ship to Canadia. But I'm pretty sure you're stuck with a hard copy, and from the sounds of it, you don't want that.

Regardless, get the hard copy, rip it to your computer. I'd rather do that than fuck with the iTunes store. (If I want to show a friend a band, I can give 'em a flash drive with a CD or so on it. iTunes pulls that: "THIS ISN'T YOUR MUSIC BAAAAAH!" bullshit.)

I really think people should buy music, but when they do things like this which make it more inconvenient for you they're just asking for you to pirate it.

I listen to an obscure band. I started e-mailing the lead singer and that how I've gotten some CDs that way. Takes a while, but it beats not listening to it.

This.

I buy CD's from concerts I go to. If they don't tour here, I don't buy their album.

If they do tour here but I can't go to the show, I'll buy their album from their website.

I do pirate albums though. For example, the new Wolfmother album. They haven't toured here yet but I want to listen to it. When/if they tour here, I'll totally grab it at the show.

Here's the issue.

1) I'm buying on an iTunes gift card so... that limits me.

2) It's an album from the iTunes live in london series; so it's only available on iTunes.

3) I can't find a torrent ANYWHERE.

Maybe set up your browser (firefox makes it easy) to connect through a uk proxy, and itunes should think that you are in the uk. Could work...?

Further proof that DRM sucks COCK and that the best way to support a band is to see them live--buying music only really helps the record companies/labels which actually reduce the artistic freedom of artists/bands.

Only time I'd actually buy music to support a band is if they had their own label, or the label was REALLY good and not run by a bunch of suits. And in cases like that (Where the label is independent, or is good) the music is also much cheaper.

I thought of that, but your iTunes account is linked to one of the stores, so mine won't sign in to anyone but Canada.

And Genghis, this is completely unrelated to record labels.

Did you try limewire? Then just drag to itunes. Then you could use your card on something else.

I realize this thread isn't about record labels, my post was more of an addressing of your irrational fear of pirating music. Your situation proves who stupid intellectual monopoly is--DRM fucks over everyone but the big record exec's. Why should you be barred from listening to music from a certain artist because of backroom deals made by people other than the artist themselves (in which the artists are virtually powerless to do anything about). If anything, this whole situation should motivate you to pirate music, because all DRM is is a gigantic scam to extract more money from the music than it's worth. The sad part is, the artists don't even benefit from this type of stuff. Pirating music is the rational choice in most situations. Unless, like I said, the band is from an independent label, or their own label, go ahead and buy it. It'll be cheaper than most other music anyways.

So to stay on topic, and answer your question. Yes, pirate the album.

Willing to pay for music does not equal irrational fear of pirating.

WoW patches are done via torrent. Just sayin'.

If someone from, say, the States, got on your account would it recognize that you were in the U.S. and you'd have the U.S. store? If so, maybe you could ask someone over here.

Or Europe, or wherever.

There's various ways to acquire pirated material, and torrenting is but a single way of half a dozen ways to acquire the material. So no, torrenting is not exclusively pirating, because as Credge pointed out Torrenting is also used for legitimate reasons by many companies as a way to get their product out.

Right... but if you read in context, which one would assume you would (foolishly) you'd realize that the torrent was attached to pirated material... thus making it pirating.
