From what I've heard the Nintendo presentation just blew everyone away, no fancy techy chat, just straight into the console and showing games and people playing them.

Also I hear they have a speaker in the controller now as well, so when you fire a gun, the sound can come from where you would be holding it. Need to find a video pronto.

Well, I think I'll be a PC-only gamer for the next several years.

Personally, I don't want to bankrupt myself on consoles that are becoming gimped PCs. I liked the days when a console just played friggn' games and didn't cost a fortune.

The only one that sounds promising is Wii (despite the craptastic name). Nintendo seems a helluva lot more innovative than PS3 and X360. Wow, Final Fantasy XXXX (WITH PRETTIER ANIME GRAPHICS AND LESS STORY!) or another Halo (the first 2 were generic FPS crap mostly enjoyed by people who’ve never played a real FPS in their life).

For those following this, is M$ at all outlining how it plans to recover from its abysmal X360 launch? Methinks they should just give up this misadventurous console thing and focus on rejuvenating the PC gaming market. Given the high prices of next-gen consoles, PC gaming is ripe for a major comeback - if certain companies play their cards right. Oh, and driving PC game sales will also deter people from switching over to Mac, which has no real gaming support…

Or maybe M$ can just focus on releasing Vista on time…

I wouldn't own an Xbox for any reason. Of the 12 people I know that purchased the 360 not a one did so without hardware problems. In a console?!?!?!?! All of them had issues?!?!?!

I have a PS2 and have liked it. However, I will not buy at PS3 at the release prices being quoted now. I may buy the WII if it's reasonably priced.

I've owned a PS2 for years, but hardly play it.

My strategy is to buy all the games at clearence prices as they make way for PS3 stuff. So what if I'm years behind the times - I save a bundle.

Yeah, so this next-gen stuff is failing to inspire me. Does anyone even have a 1080p HD monitor?

I saw a brief mention that Nintendo showed off a new Fire Emblem. I'm a fan of the series, so did anyone find any more info on it?

I have played a real FPS in my life before Halo, and I enjoyed it very much.

Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean that everyone who does has "never played a real FPS in their life".

Yes FT...I am beginning to get the impression that you're a fan of the Xbox....

However, initial release problems are not why I'd decline to get one. I don't even get that far.

Even assuming we agree with you that XB360 blew them out of the water the fact remains that Microsoft is a "for profit" business and I cannot see them continuing in the market unless something changes radically. AFAIK XB360 as an entire division (including Live) is still in the red.

Of course my comment was a sweeping generalization. But it holds true for the 10 or so people I know who proclaim Halo is the best thing ever. I've played the game and it's mediocre at best; just another FPS right down to alien artifact business. I simply don't see why this game has so much hype.

I'm not really admirative of the Mona Lisa, but it's inarguably one of the best paintings ever. Your view of something and the accepted truth don't have anything to do with each other. I'm not saying that the majority is always right, but disproving what millions of people feel is going to take more than just stating your feelings.

I thought Halo was mediocre too. It is very fun to play with friends, but imo I didn't think the storyline was TOO original. Halo 2 made the story better, but not fantastic.

Halo 3 isn't being released til 2007. I guess Microsoft will have to come up with a new plan to foil the PS3's launch.

Damn Nez, I was about to support your whole post until the very end. What's wrong with the 360?

After watching the newly released Metal Gear Solid 4 and Lair videos, I have yet to see a game that even comes close in comparison, graphics wise.

I'm getting a PS3 (through one of those referral based, pyramid schemes), but I plan on immediately selling it. Consoles, no matter how pretty or "next gen," just don't give me the "kicks" PC games do. I've played games like Quake 4 and such on the Xbox360 and I'm bored out of my mind, yet when I play the same game on my PC I'm entertained (despite the fact that the graphics are slightly worse).

Well, seeing as how the PS1 didn't exist back then, no. However, it will support any game released for a playstation natively without having to pay for the old version. The Wii download service is still really cool, but it's not like you can just shove in a Super Nintendo game cartridge into it.
