How does one import a 3ds max mesh as a mdl?

I hope this has not been posted here yet. ( I did a search)
What I want to do is create prop_static stuff in 3d studio max and import it into hammer. I can't figure this out with google. I was hoping one of you guys have experience with this.
This was so easy with unrealED, not sure why I can't figure it out with hammer.

As far as I know 3ds Max can't extract the propour file extension. I use XSI, but try importing your model into MilkShape and then extracting. I really don't know though since I don't use the program.

You use a smd exporter to export from max. then use the studiomdl program to make the smd's into mdl.

Or there is some fancy GUI program out there that does this for you, or something.

This is bugging me to no end.
So I got the SMD exporter and that seems to work fine.
My max model is exported to a .SMD file
I use studiomdl to try and convert it but it wants a QC file to tell it what to do.
I tried some example qc files that I found on google but it errors out.
Does anyone know of a QC file tutorial that I can use?

This explains creating a prop_physics entity but it's a similar deal : http://www.gamedesign.net/node/1002

Use the $staticprop command in the .qc file and I think you should be fine.

QC files are covered in the sdk reference documents.

agh doesn't anyone read these sort of documents anymore?

I think I have explained qc files like 30 times now, on various boards and irc channels.

Thanks!. Editing the QC was still failing for me.
Luckily I stumbled across the HL2 compile tools on the ERC from the SDK docs. Worked perfect. Thanks for the tip, even if you sound slightly annoyed about giving it.
I had not read anything about it on these boards yet sorry.
