Changing textures, and adding custom models
I remeber that in TFC i changed my models of the weapons, and the textures of all maps (looked kinda as q3 r_picmip 9).
There was no detail at all in the walls, soo i could see much clearly than original textures.. Some 1 knows how can i edit (like adding q3 rocket, instead of FF) the textures and the models from the weapons/SGs? |

Clean textures rule.
If I ever stop being lazy, I wanna do 'em all that way. :O All the textures are visible in the FortressForever/materials folder. You'll need a program to edit/view VTF and VMT files - Google can help you with this easily. Once that's done it's just a matter of photoshopping them (or gimping them or painting them or whatever) to what you want and recreating the files - again Google can help you. As for using replacement models, that's a little trickier, and I'll let someone more versed in the field help you with that. Also, I'm moving this to the Mods forum, since that's where it should be.

well now, to change the textures of maps, this is what you will have to do:
1.) map with cutom textures: go into the folder that contains the textures(usally the same name as the map), open up the textures or create your own BUT keep their names the exact same as the ones in the folder. save them in the same location as the custom textures, or where they were, you'll have to remove them original textures first to save your in there with the same names unless you open up the texture and save it. follow me? 2.) map using FF textures: find the textures and open them, create them how you want them and save as the same name they were. Notes: 1.) use VTF plugin for photoshop, or VTFlib?/edit? something like that. 2.) names AND locations of textures MUST stay the same ok i think thats it, i swamped at work and my boss walked away sooooo yea, theres a quick run down, somebody correct me if i messed up anywhere.

Nope you pretty much got it gambit.
Essentially as long as you save the material you want to use over an existing material then the map will look however you made it. The only thing though is that this really is breeching on a hack...like the wrong textures being used and your in deep shit. But sometimes it's cool.

If the map uses textures from HL2, you'll have to extract them from the gcf file before you can edit them. Google for GCFScape.

Remember the tiles from TFC that you could use as your textures? I used those all the time, it made the game look a bit more clean/vibrant. I wonder if it's a matter of a simple tiling effect in photoshop. I'll fuck around with this when I get home/after practice. If it looks good enough, I'll host em, and post em here, but that might be a shot in the dark. First attempts usually don't end up spectacular, but hey, who knows?

what kind of "simple" textures are you looking for?
and do you mean a replacement for ALL of the textures? i might could be convinced to do this for you, but it involves knees pads...

ok then replace the textures but remember you need to keep their locations and names the same.

Just create a folder in your textures folder called OLD, and copy all your old textures there, then open the current ones and edit them that way, saving them under their original names.

no, copy them and paste somewhere else. then open up PS and open and save the textures as you work on them, that way you dont have to worry about keeping up with the names, change the view to tumbnail view so you can see which ones who have changed already, will need the vtfthumb thingy..

Exactly how my tfc looked for a good while, except for the explosions and rocket flare
oh the good ol' days... Would be ace if someone could make something like this for FF, maybe it would even boost the frame rate for the older machines? Then there was also those lego textures (that's what we used to call them at least) which were even more plain then the ones mentioned above. |
