Best bang for the buck? (PC Upgrade) - Parts received w00t!

I'm upgrading my PC soon, and my budget is about $350. Here's what I'm planning on upgrading to:

GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz 6MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor
and

OCZ Platinum 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory

Anyone know if there might be any better deals for something similar or better than these items? I hear having a higher speed dual core processor is better than a lower speed quad core, regardless of the obvious benefits of a quad core processor.

I'm not sure about better prices, but it's looking like I might have to get a new case for my computer(fucked up the power supply, got a new one, and the cords have no where to go because damn HP didn't want their repair people to get in the damn thing), and if I do I might get a new motherboard, and that's what I'm looking at getting. It seems to be the running price though.

id add an aftermarket cooler and do some oc'in. core 2's are pretty good at that, i had a 1.86 that i ran at 2.8 for over a year on a $15 arctic cooling 7 cooler. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...2E16835186134R it kept me temps low and the machine was rock steady till my crucial ram decided to be gay and keep dying.

Are you spying on me? Cause thats exactly what I got.

Been workin good for me thus far. Also, unless you have Vista or x64 XP, dont bother with 4 gigs of ram. no need. I can run everything fine on 2g.

I've already got a compatible aftermarket cooler:
ZALMAN 9500A 92mm 2 Ball CPU Cooler

Along with some Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound for my CPU.

And @noeffeks, 4 GB of ram for $40 after MIR? That's a fucking steal in my book. I can't believe how cheap RAM has become lately. I remember spending $120 on 512mb of ram way back in the day...

Also, I'm thinking about getting a case, and while I really didn't want to go over $350, I'm willing to shell out an extra $100 - $150 if I can find a good one.

Anyone have any suggestions? I'm sorta looking for something with at least 4 fans, something that's relatively quiet, black in color, not too flashy, and is not cheaply made.

Here's one I've been looking at:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811146051

It's got actual padding on the insides of the case enclosure to lower noise, which is the first I've seen that, only problem I see from the reviews is a couple components in it that are look cheaply made.

And another one with 7 fans lol:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811146029

And finally, I found this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811119160
But it's a bit above my price range. It's got some huge fans in it, and I like the design.

I would say you should seriusly go for a Quad-Core.

For a nice case, are you looking Mid or Full Tower?

I personally like the Antec Gaming cases. I have the Nine Hundred. All three of these have 4 fans with room for a 5th and Mid Towers.

Antec Three Hundred
Antec Nine Hundred
Antec Nine Hundred Two

If you want over-kill, they make a Full Tower:
Antec Twelve Hundred

I'm running the same mobo as you right now and it's fantastic.

As for processors, I got a Q8200 Quad for Christmas, and I love that too-I don't care what anyone else says, I saw a huge improvement in many games when I went to a quad.

Oh gawd. I hate when it takes 3 hours to install a fucking motherboard.

15 minutes looking for a backup drive to transfer all my crap to. half an hour transferring the files. 15 minutes looking for my Arctic Silver thermal paste(was in my truck... go figure)

Then 2 hours of trying to figure out just how I was going to fit my giant fucking aftermarket cooler on the thing. Apparently, these new motherboards don't have brackets like my old mobo does, so I was forced to use the stock new CPU fan/heatsink, at least so I thought. I then remembered there were some brackets that came with my Zalman heatsink, so 5 minutes of searching for that, I found the brackets, but only 3/4 of the screws for it... I then managed to find out after screwing it on that there is not enough room between the plastic part that sticks out where the metal thingymajig goes because of the on board heatsink crap everywhere, so I unscrewed it all, preattached the metal part to the plastic part, then realized on the back of my motherboard, there were 3 tiny little pins sticking out, protruding in front of my plastic bracket, disallowing me to screw in all the screws, so I contemplated filing the bracket down a bit so those pins would not get in the way, but I then realized I had it upside down, so I swapped it, and finally was able to get my heatsink on, with just the right amount of thermal grease, and I didn't even have time to plug everything else in...

So today, after work, I am determined to get this shit working.

My roommate is paying me $85 for my old 8600GT.

I just bought a 260GTX. Nice board...somehow I missed that it was full length and a double slot in width. Runs Crysis at high without any stutter. My son's getting my 8600gts.
