More viable when a medic isn't around? Sounds to me like Valve is trying to cover up a gimpy class... |

Hmm I can see it:
Minigun upgrade = slighty less damage, no crits, HP + 3 per hit, +100 HP. Just like they did with the Pyro, but covering his slowness with BlutSlaughter effect. |

All that health doesn't really do much when it's all in one place. As was done with the pyro and medic, they are going to eliminate the classes weakness for a tradeoff in ability. For example, the medic gained increased survivability with the nail gun but lost the chance to crit with the weapon. Pretty much an upgrade. The pyros biggest weakness was range and he was given a flare launcher. It does exactly what it is supposed to while eliminating his close-range fire power. This was, of course, diminished because the pyro is OP as hell in close range now. The heavies biggest weakness is movement both in and out of combat. I can easily see them making him move as fast as the soldier at the cost of damage or firepower. This is supposed to make league play less of a "2 SOLDIER, 2 SCOUT, 1 MEDIC, 1 DEMO" affair, with one of the scouts going sniper, heavy, or engineer depending on the situation. This is why the pyro gained a long range counter (his little air push from his normal flamethrower) and a medium range weapon (flare gun). It makes him 'viable' in league play. It's kind of like what we see with the heavy and pyro in FF. They aren't really viable in league play and simply don't get played.
