We've reworked our existing Source engine SDK documentation into a Wiki, which means that virtually all of the content can be edited by anyone with a web browser and useful information to share. We hope that this is an efficient and useful tool that the MOD community can use to share information on building a game using Source. The open nature of a Wiki raises some obvious concerns about what kind of content is contributed to the site, from worries about vandalism to honest inaccuracy and mistakes. There will be the occasional disruptive person, but the site provides methods for dealing with this.

This is not Valve's site, this is the MOD community's site -- we've just helped out by jump-starting it for you. The new site should be treated like this mailing list -- as a place where you as developers can share information about how to make games using the Source engine. It should also a place where a number of people at Valve contribute fairly regularly, with the plan being to make it the most information-rich place on the Internet to learn about making a game using Source.

The site currently contains all of the SDK documentation ported over to the Wiki format, but this is only the tip of the iceberg in terms of the content that is useful for developers to know when it comes to building games using Source. Everyone should feel free to go in and make any corrections or additions they think are appropriate.

Let's try it, after all Valve said "This is not Valve's site, this is the MOD community's site -- we've just helped out by jump-starting it for you."

Isn't that what it was not, I thought I read it was community created and that Valve thinking it could be a good source of information just gave it a jumpstart by featuring it in their news and perhaps supplying some know-how.

As it is NOT valves site surely they cant dictate what info /mods are discussed ?

If they can then I for one am going to write a very strong worded letter to my MP ![/b]

It is Valve's website, don't take it all too literally what Erik said.

There's a chance that it's a bit less strict than SP, such as being able to include FF in a certain list of all TF mods.

However I'm not sure how well they will take it that the Wiki page about their game (TFC) contains a link to FF.

IMHO the link to Fortress Forever should be removed from the TFC wiki as it does not really belong there. And might create tension just like on SP.

oh no! tension! who cares, if valve get upetty about it or not does it really make any difference? valve have nothing to do with FF whatsoever, the worst it can do is just get removed with no fuss, the best it can do is get removed with loads of uproar and generate shitloads of publicity for FF from the epople who arent so retarded to see the only reason valve are upset is cause they shouldve done it first.

I'd be more worried about other players getting angry. Since, they would reason, if FF is mentioned in the TFC post, why not ETF, Q3F, UnF, etc? Not that all of them couldn't be mentioned, but still, I feel it may possibly lead to bad publicity for FF.

"Then.. kill them with bad publicity!"
"Ah ha ha.. There's no such thing as bad publicity sir."

I relate TFC much more to Valve than other mod, if I was thinking along the lines of Q3F than I would go back to the source that is Team Fortress.

As long as mentioning it wouldn't get the FF mod team in trouble, or damage us I think we should mention it. Basically out of proof, hopefully to other people, that valve is being unreasonable. Of course the problem with that is the people who don't understand and refuse to play FF because they think valve has commanded them not too.

Damn now I'm torn. I don't like the way valve is dealing with this. If it was my place I'd probobly slap some of this in their face just to keep them in line.... or angry. But, it is not my place.

The wiki itself is cool, and I'm sure it will prove to be very usefull.

I think Valve probably dosnt want people to play it because they are afraid that people will just download this mod instead of by TF2 but I think its stupid because they dont seem to care about TF anymore.

I act under the opinion that when something is released in the public and widely accepted it no longer belongs to it's creator. It belongs them. Star Wars being an example, this is why I hate the sequels. Lucas wrote and produced them, but once it took off it became our movie.

The same is true for Team Fortress. Valve sent it out there, we took it, and it's ours now. The TF2 they want to make isn't team fortress. I'm sure it'll be a fun game. But the last thing it will resemble is Team Fortress, and so they lost their rights to the game. Not legally... but morally. That's our game their screwing with ya know?

(strictly opinion here)
