Crappy FPS

In maps like Well and Monkey, as soon as I look in the courtyard (or a room full of people) I get a huge FPS drop. This sucks, because I can play Half life and counterstrike relatively well, and my FPS is still bad even at the lowest settings! I had this problem with insurgency too.

suggestions / fix it plz.

do you mean you can play HL2 and CS:S well, or just regular?

Well I can play it on max with like 30 FPS average...

I presume its a shop bought one then If you don't know it.

Control Panel > System

Will give some basic stats.

Intel Pentium 4 CUP 2.53 GhZ
2.53 GhZ, 1.00 of RAM. And I have an ATI 9600 radeon video card I believe.

Get more ram and update your video card.

That vid card is mostly to blame. Monkey is fairly resource hungry in the yard, but you're not going to get great performance with a 9600 regardless, I'm afraid.

If you don't know how to do that, check out the steampowered.com help system for how to force DX7. I'd link it but the steam site is down right now.

Well I doubt this is your overall performance problem, but add r_dynamic 0 as one of your settings.

this exact thing happened to me when i first played TFC back in 1999.

8meg ATI card
CPU 366meghrtz intel
256 meg RAM.
