Ahora mismo no recuerdo los nombres en español, pero creo que no se alejaban mucho... Quizá deberías poner "claveteadora" o "remachadora"... Y no sé si es buena idea cambiar "Super" por "mejorada", porque a lo mejor acabas quedándote sin espacio =D!

Este link puede ser de ayuda, aunque hay cosas que no quedan muy bien - la Railgun debería ser algo como "pistola de rayos/láser", por ejemplo.

By the way, are there character limits on any of those lines? Some words in Spanish, if not most, are way longer than in English, which may cause a fitting problem. So if there's a character limit, the sooner we know it the better =o

Also, I guess it's possible to test the language swap by overwriting the original .txt with the translated one, or it will cause issues with servers with sv_pure? (Don't really want to screw up lol)

Seeing as we are making this topic a Spanish translation one, I think the best we can do is continue this by PM or Steam Chat, to keep things clean.

Sorry for wasting space in teh topic! =o

I was a bit worried about languages that don't even use roman characters like Chinese, Thai, Japanese, Hindi, etc.

Scout です か?(Basically, "Is that a Scout?" in Japanese) doesn't really sound that weird I suppose, but I'm not the one to make that decision. Until the devs discuss this, assume that we'd want to translate the names for now. (If you don't have East Asian fonts installed, you're not gonna see my crazy Japanese characters in bold, you'll just see Scout ?? ??.

I'm not 100% sure but we probably don't have those letters in the font. This is a give and take with the community here. Whoever made the font didn't have the foresight to put in some characters like, say, Cyrillic characters for Russian and Greek.

If someone does the actual translation, however, I don't see why we couldn't add them into the font (or make an extra font for that language). If we have the translation we'd be more inclined to get them added in.

I think the problem is not the font, but the game not using Unicode for some stuff. We should test this by replacing the fonts we have with known complete Unicode fonts.

Part of the problem is that we don't have certain characters. I'd agree on the Unicode thing as well.

Can I use "ñ"? and acents? (á é í ó ú)

Ihmhi, as I said, I'll stick to the original names, but i'll change hwguy for heavy, what do you think? Spanish people wille understand all the names, but if you prefer i'll use tfc's names, despite in my opinion the sound silly

Dude, like I said, just translate the names as you see fit. If you want to add notes outside of the text file, like this:

Quote:
[code]
All the translation stuff
[code]

Notes: I called the HW Guy "El Chihuahua Muerte, it means Valiant Warrior in Spanish"
That's pretty much fine.

If you can type it as a character and not an image, i.e. stuff like é, á, ô, etc. then it can probably be incorporated as a font in FF. Go ahead, translate away people.

If it's not in that list then we can't do a whole bunch about it just yet.

Unless someone wants to get really good sound recording equipment or rent a studio and say "The enemy has your flag" in Russian all day...

I'll say this again.

There WILL be problems with the fronts because FF does not support most characters from other languages.

Write it up and post it on the forums HERE. If you copy that text file and fill in the translations for your respective language, we will look into supporting those characters in the font.

Don't worry about the characters. Do the translation and post it here. If it's done and its good, then we can worry about finding shit about fonts and whatnot for Russian, German, Spanish, etc.

Alright, I'll get to it. It's tricky though, cause it's hard to translate without sounding silly/some puns being lost, so I'll try to maintain as many of the english terms as possible

Anything from Bomber, Demolitions Expert, etc. Medic is easy too. I think most languages would have a word for Pyromaniac. Spy shouldn't be that hard, nor should Engineer. So really, the hardest one is HW Guy.

Besides, if we didn't, all people are going to be saying is stuff like:

"What does [Demoman] mean?"

And whatever that other person would say, that's what it should be named.
Mabye the HW Guy could have the translated word "Support Weapons"?
Although that redirects to anti-tank and artillery stuff on wikipedia.

Really the only thing close would be something like "Machine Gunner"
