IMO, you have to like almost all the band's songs to like the band. I like all of Zeppelins, all of RHCP's, all of Coldplay etc. You can't just lik the hits.

My friend just got a double neck Gibson. Today he's going through the tedious process of stringing it for the first time and tuning it. Once he's got it in order I'm gonna play it for sure.

Mick has skills, he used to be a guitar teacher. Click the slipknot vid

http://www.line6.com/spiderii/movies.html

Check out the 1d preset "snarl"... last clip on the vid

I wish he'd start a technical death metal band, that'd be awesome... could pair him up with Jeff Loomis now that would bring some fucking killer riffs and shred solos

He's using Ibanez atm, with S E V E N inlayed into the lower frets...

I'd play one, only if it had the wizard 2 profile though, and that's pushing it. I've an RG570 in bits, and I'm sending it off to a luthier next week to get a new neck built. It's got the original wizard (aka pencil neck) profile.. UGH. Liked it for about 3 months then realised it was the turdiest neck profile known to man

btw, how many songs do you need to like before you like the band?
???

I didn't know you had to go through a qualifying process to say you're a fan.

Yeah, but it used to be a "HATE" inlay.

And, French? You don't have to like almost all of the songs. Hell, Iron Maiden has 2 bad CDs, but I still like the band. You can like/dislike whatever you please. Saying that you like every single song by the bands you like isn't fooling anyone.

I'm not trying to fool anyone. You can name any song by those bands and I like them. I guess it's a hard thing to prove over the internet... but I stand by what I said whether or not you want to believe me.

if you try hard enough, you can think you like almost anything, so i believe you. i'd say that i liked a lot of stuff that's been released by the three bands that you mentioned, probably enough to say that i liked the bands. but i'd also say that they've all released some shit tracks too. LZ would top that particular list, but they were more unconventional, so i guess there's some sort of excuse for them there.

Matt Freeman from Rancid = great bass player.

and i can't believe no one has mentioned Mike Watt. (unless i just didn't see it)

i play a Hohner B2A 4 string with a shitty peavy amp. but it gets the job done. i used to have a mid sixties melody maker, but sold it and then regretted it. in the preccess of getting a mid ranged priced fender acoustic bass. can't remember the model.

the b2a doesn't have the greatest sound but its light and the short scale makes it easy to play. i use it for live shit. i've been using an epiphone les paul bass for recording. not mine though. my band is recording a lot of new songs. we have older recordings, but i'm not on them. when i get a hold of them i'll post'em. a fuck if ya want to hear the old ones hear they are http://www.myspace.com/somewheresouthmusic These songs are probally 2 years old though.

the new shit sounds ten times better. we got one of those ten track digital recorders and didn't really know how to use it. a few years later we do.

to those of you who arnt talking about guitars, take it here

punk bass isnt really my style for playing, but its definitely fast. i wanna learn some new slap riffs, so im gonna be looking to incubus' old stuff. dirk lance rules! i mean check his rig, that in itself is stupidly overcomplicated for bass :D

Wow... talk about your spendy setup.

Anyone here played a Parker Fly?

Those are the lightest goddamn guitars on the planet.

I think I am going to get me a Ritter Bass when I get the chance. I like the Okon style... a nice five or six string fretless with monorail 2 bridge, active preamp and sperzel machine heads. Still debating on finish, though.

I also like Wal and Status Graphite (Ironically... both UK companies. Something tells me that they got more right than American stuff. Oh and Ritter is from Germany.)

For me the best Guitarist are:

Carlos Santana (A god with the guitar)
Slash (From GNR/SNP/VR)
Tom Morrelo (RATM/Audioslave)
Jimmy Hendrix (If you don't know this guy go kill your self)

but that's my point of view

I'd take your list, and add Jimmy Page and John Frusciante.

you're not mentioning anyone in particular here, only the usual guys. i agree with santana and slash, great players. tom morello is O.K (he has some inventivity, and makes good use of his killswitch). i always felt that hendrix was a bit overrated and overhyped, but that's just me (please don't pull a "well he started the whole electric guitar thing"). page is a good player too...

but john frusciante ? what am i missing of his fantastic chord career ? i only heard him with RHCP so please point out if he shredfests in his spare time but i really can't see why he would be so great to be mentioned in a "best guitarist list".. on with mine :

classical/folk guitar

Paco de Lucia }
John Mc Laughlin } basically the holy triad
Al di Meola }

electric

Marty Friedman
Jason Becker
Eric Clapton
Steve Vai
Joe Satriani
Frank Zappa (great musician)
Dave Gilmour

i could go on, but the list is long.
