My PC has been swarmed by the ebil pop-up monster! NOOOOO

Its now impossible for me to enjoy going on my PC... because the internet randomly spawns browsers to ads, and sometimes they include those horrid graphical pop-ups (you know those ones that arent on the browser and usually have a CLOSE-X button at the top...

so when im playing a game... this random thing popped up with a picture of a doctor holding a box of viagra... i was playing oblivion so i was trying to decapitate the bastard...

so any computer-wizards know how to purge a PC of this monster? cause im looking at my windows CD right now, and its tempting just to format (but i would lose quite a bit...)

Use this: Spy Sweeper.

You have to pay for it, but you can get it free if you.. ahem.. download it...

I had the same problem, nothing solved it except Spy Sweeper.

If you use IE you should just smash your computer to death for yuo doing stupid.
Using Firefox really does help fight spyware and such.

one that was not mentioned is Windows Defender
It's the new iteration of the MS Antispyware Program.

FWIW, Ad Aware, Spybot and most of the free programs are only minimally effective. So far Spy sweeper seems to stay ahead of the crowd.

You should be aware that MS's Security Chief recently said that SPyware is getting to the point where some infections can only be foiled by reformatting your hard drive and reinstalling the operating system. Kind of a sad admission methinks...

I use Ad-Aware, Spybot, and Spyware Blaster, all with my PC-Cillin. Spyware/Virus-free since this comp was born, budday.

heres what you do..

spread the love! just like in tfc.

i had the same thing, i thought, when i first got my computer. it sucked!

whenever it popped up when i was playing cs, i'd ask the people i were playing with about it.. and finally, one day, i got the help i needed.

turns out, windows has it's own integrated popups! i think it was called.. windows services. you can toggle it on and off somewhere.

god, i wanted to smack billy in the face and sodomize his skanky white ass.

it was my first fucking computer, ever.

Yeah, the Windows Messenger Service comes enabled by default. However, that is not what the author of this thread is referring to. WMS was a real problem back in the days of Window NT...what a collossal pain in the butt that was!

I've fixed and re-fixed so many people's computers for so long, that the last thing I always tell them is that, even when it was like some situation where they were payin' me. I would give them all this advice, and tell them that the computer is perfectly fine right now, and as long as you don't start dickin' around with stupid shit, it's gonna stay fine.

"Wait, hold up, what's this? Awesome, my grandma must've gotten a computer and sent me this e-mail. Man, I'ma pull my dick out and get read for it to get played with, but not before I start double clickin' shit in this e-mail. America.... Fuck yeah!"

I did some research, and that's how 100% of computer fuck-ups start.

It's free for now. So I'm thinking the price is right. The only catch is that you have to have a validated Windows Install or know someone who can make the file available for download without their validation.

im getting like.. 20 sms messages every day from some site called.. SMS.ac

*name* wants to be your friend, etc etc. at least 20 a day !!
I asked them nicely to stop sending me sms messages..
I sent them an email telling that if they would not stop I will hack into their database and bye bye goes the company.
All without success.

Any suggestions on how i can make these guys stop smsing me?

*edit*
Ok now a part is disabled, but they say that if I want to disable all messages I have to log in to my account :S but I don't have one !!!
fucking retards !

I had EXACTLY the same problem.. Adaware, spybot, hijack this did nothing at all.. They didn't find anything.

I ran Spy Sweeper and it found all the crap that was on my PC and got rid of it.. Took about 5 minutes..

What you are describing is scumware anyway. Could have come from a dodgy movie/website etc.

That's the fucking dumbest thing to say. It's like people on starcraft who say "leave now or I"ll hack j00r system!". It wins an award for most empty threat.
