I think the Dell has a lot to offer:
http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/p...tegory_id=4009
I don't know how it stacks up price wise against the others on your shortlist, but the brightness is twice that of any of the others and the contrast is as good as the best.

3 year warranty so I wouldn't worry too much about build quality, you're always gonna see more complaints for Dell than anyone else with them being the biggest.

Decs: Buy the biggest panel with the highest native resolution that you can afford that has decent to good color reproduction.

Not yet emphasized in this thread, the resolution you can run at on the panel, as well as the size are two very important features for design work. The Apple display is probably your best bet.

Yeah ive been thinking about this myself..

Ive been working in 1900x1200 latley and ive started to hate low resolutions.. its especially nice when working on textures above 1024x1024.

Theres a 90% chance that im going for the apple cinema display since thats the display with the highest resolution and size. The lacie has the same resolution and size but i prefer the widescreen so yeah :E

But the Dell is 1920x1200 both the Apple and the LaCie are far less than that.

Yes the dell you posted is, and thats also a 24" which is priced in norway way over my budget.

The 24" dell is priced at $1500
while the lacie and the apple cinema display is priced at $1000

And i would prefer not to go over 1000 dollars really.

Why not take a look at the Dell 2005FPW. I believe It uses the exact same panel as the Apple monitor, just has a different design/style. I'm buying the 2005FPW soon, can be had for as low as $450 canadian!

I'm looking at my parents credit card right now... that 25% off is amazing, I'm supposed to be saving my money for a new truck but with deals like this it's just so hard. I already ordered a 30gig Ipod video today and that monitor is looking just as tasty at that price!

I have had a look at the dell 2005FPW.

It does use the same LG panel, however it uses a different backlight. From what ive seen and heard the apple backlight is far better than the one in the dell screen, where alot of the dell screens has backlight leakage around the edges the apple does not. Apple also has a far more tighter quality testing policy. Ive heard about so many people that have had numerous problems with dead pixels on that dell screen and the overall build quality on the apple seems sturdier.

Despite the backlight and dead pixel problems the dell screen does have a number of features that the apple should have. One of them beeing a pivot function and more adjustment options. However the apple screen is vesa compatible so buying a monitor arm or such should clear up thoose problems if i find it annoying in the long run.

But overall, since im able to get a teachers discount on the apple screen the two monitors are pretty similar in price and the clean "no nonsense" appareance of the apple aswell as the better backlight and build quality has won me over. I'm most likley ordering one tomorrow.
