Reset advanced video settings each start

Each time I launch FF, my video settings and brightness are reset to standard values. The first time I started FF with the launch options "-dxlevel 81 -console" to get the game run with DirectX 8.1, then quit the game immediately. Since that I always start FF with just "-console" and the settings are reset to standard.

Any ideas how to get this straight?

ok after you set launch option's start FF then quit game, go back to launch option and remove the directx lvl you set or anything else, doing this will not remove you setting directx lvl to 8.1 or whatever else you set in launch options, but for example you leaving directx lvl setting in launch options will reset everytime, you start FF. Hope this makes sence and helps, if not ask a dev.

I have already removed "-dxlevel 81", but it still changes the video settings when I start FF. The DirectX stays at 8.1 as it should, be the advanced settings still switch to standard.

Got the problem solved. My autoexec.cfg have had some high fps commands that were executed at FF launch, more exactly mat_ commands. I was not able to determine which of them were the bad boy, so here is a list of my high fps _mats for your interest:

mat_clipz "1"
mat_colorcorrection "0"
mat_compressedtextures "1"

yeah, just skimming your list there are at least a few commands there that will change what you select in the gfx options menu (i.e. there's an equivalent console command for every setting in the gfx options menu, so obviously if you have a config that sets those commands it will overwrite whatever gfx settings you selected each time you load the game).

unless you're rly rly desparate for more fps, my advice to everyone is just to configure it all in the gfx menu. everything that makes a major difference to performance can be set in the menus (fortress options and gfx menus), and btw there's a shortcut in the FF folder to make FF run in dx8 if you need to do that for your system. if your system can cope tho, i find FF much clearer and hence easier to play on dx9 with maximum gfx settings (just dynamic lights disabled in the fortress menu cos they mess shit up).
