Just to let you know?

If you have the orangebox but none of the other online fps source games you can still play ff. I wasn't sure if it it would but you get source sdk and source sdk base. I bought it for tf2 (witch I think is shit) So since I didn't like it I set it up on the other puter for my middle son and said to myself " I wonder if FF will work. So burned a dvd of my ff file sent it to the sourcemod directory and now I get to kick my boy's ass online.

Well, it does contain Half-Life 2, which is the big deal with regards to getting Fortress Forever. I can't believe this was a surprise to anyone.

As far as I know, which I'm 99.9999% sure of, if you own Half-Life 2 you get HL2: Death Match, and every other 3rd party MOD. I know I did with my Bronze key....but they may have changed that. That would really suck if it were true. Try to get Counter-Strike: Source......that should come with HL2 also.

What bearing does HL2: DM have on another HL2 based MOD?

I think it's because HL2: DM is with 10 $ the cheapest way to get Source SDK, which is what you need to play FF, which is why you bought HL2 in the first place ^^

you dont need HL2: DM for anything. you just need the source SDK, which is INCLUDED with HL2: DM. but, it also comes with a number of other games.

I understand a little better now. I thought you had to have one of the online fps games. But apparently if you just have hl2 or one of the equivalents and have the source sdk your all good. Hey Circuitous I probably say or do a lot of shit you can't believe but just from lack of knowledge so keep educating people it will make it a better place.

if you own any of the Valve games that is currently on the source engine you can play any source engine modification. Here are the games that if you bought them, they include the source sdk and you can play any mod you desire:

Quote:
Counter Strike Source
Day of Defeat Source
Half-Life 2
HL2 Episode One
HL2 Episode Two
Half-Life 2 Deathmatch
Portal
Team Fortress 2
it's also not to hard to look at your Steam Main windows and click on the "Tools" tab and if you see Source SDK BASE then you are good to go.
