i don't see why people cry about waiting and poor download speeds. They released it early, what more do you want?

Still bitching upon release... geez.

You could wait 'til september 17th still if you'd like. The fact that the download will finish before then is a gift. Quit whinign.

Coverage isn't just on fileplanet when they do premieres. They also post premieres on IGNPC and GameSpy front pages, as well as the FilePlanet and GameSpy newsletters, and Fargo sends an announcement out on Comrade, which has millions of users.

Believe me, it makes a difference (just check out Insurgency, 75k downloads for their mod, that's more than a lot of game demos get!)

And the backlash from screwing everyone over with a fileplanet release was so bad on their forums that they broke their deal with fileplanet and put out other mirrors.

On HL2Files.com, main Insurgency beta file has 88.787 downloads, and the patch 57137 downloads. FilePlanet is not the only one that can advertise ;P.

How do you know? ^_^, I could ask though. Still, why would anyone cancel the download, hehe.

I've clicked the download button on unpopular files before, you can test it out yourself. every time you click it the download count goes up.

Lots of people will start a download, get unsatisfactory speeds and then quit the download for another mirror. It happens on all download sites, I'm just saying that FilePlanet doesn't list those users as actual downloads. That's one of the reasons commercial games use FilePlanet; the download counts are an accurate representation instead of inflated numbers.

There are even certain download sites I won't name that manually edit their download counts... =\

Oh, I can do that as well.. Even though I see no reason why I should edit the d/l numbers.

FileShack has it up for grabs.
http://www.fileshack.com/file.x/11120/Fortress+Forever

The free mirrors say the cap is 150k/s, but I'm getting 270k/s.

I'm getting 450 kb/s. Anything less than 100, and you're doing it wrong. :P

They don't need to convince anyone on this forum to DL -- we were already gonna. Quit thinking of only your wants when Fortress as a community was is BAD shape and be thankful they had the forethought to take a shot at fixing it.
