This pretty much shows that steam wants people's money.

I don't like Steam at all. I agree with the comments about it breaking things. I don't like any game where there has to be live real time interaction with them to perform the install. Far more companies that made games have come and gone than are here today. I'm still playing games that are a decade old. I bought my copies and I believe I have every right to install those games on each new system that replaces my old ones. As to Steam breaking things...it's part of why I don't play much FF. got tired of the random crashing. No other game crashes on my system. Only Steam. Not even Fallout 3 crashes for me....

How does Steam not let you do this?

I personally am and have always been a huge proponent of Steam. I think it's a brilliant system and has proved very profitable for Valve, whom I also think is brilliant. I'd rather put up with production delays and crap like that than have a subpar game, which I've yet to see from Valve.

And like it or not, Steam-esque distribution is where the game industry is heading.

If Steam ever goes defunct then we lose that ability to install or play these Steam tied games.

I have 120$ worth of software is a paperweight now cuz my 12 yr old dowloaded a wall hax and got vac banned, no phone support really pisses me off...
