Crash Problem Tip
Hi.
I have read many posts on here about people having problems with crashing while running FF/steam etc. Well belive me I have been ripping my hair out with the same problem, I tried everything possible from drivers to updates, reinstalling to troubleshooting also extensivly looking though the steam technical support pages in which i tried everything they suggested (which by the way I rate very highly and probably will solve your problem) ... but not mine. Then I thought I would give my PC a dust. Well. As a last resort I had the cover of my PC and took the very basics out of it and got in amongest it with a hover and small clean paintbrush, paying particular attention to heat sinks, fans and the CPU fan. What can I say? Well I can say it worked a treat, and I havent had one single system or steam crash in over 2 weeks. So after youve tried everything else first and it is still crashing, just before you throw your PC out the window, give it a good and proper clean out. Now I realise that half of you have your PC in bits every second week replacing parts or upgrading but for those of us who dont give it a shot because it worked wonders (must of been overheating the CPU?). Hope this was helpful. -Jaxx PS. Admin, maybe this would be -or something simliar- could be made a 'sticky' to catch people's eyes. Just a suggestion. |

I said if nothing else works and as a last resort, read before posting your smart comments.
I'll elaborate a bit. Crashing problems, looping sounds, no error messages. Youve tried everything but still crashes, may be an overheat problem. Give it a clean. Im speaking on behalf of people who dont know a great deal about comps. Last edited by Jaxx; 10-05-2007 at 12:21 PM. |

ahh that i believe. you said you hadnt had a steam crash in a while either, leading me to believe that cleaning it out magically made datacache.dll less of a cunt. and dont take anything i say too seriously, im just a bitter fuck who hates the fact that ff crashes all the time and nothing seems to fix it so i get mad at other people that dont have that problem |

Yeah, I dusted out my computer the other day.
Opened it up and was "HOLY SHIT! I didn't know my computer parts also came in gray!" Cleaned it up a bit, and it runs as smooth as ever. Still need to run it in DX7, sadly. |

Just a word of advice to those blowing their computers out with say an air compressor or anything that isn't canned air. Put your hand on any fan before you blast it with air or you can screw your fan bearings up. If you accidentally do it once or twice thats fine but repeated hits by air can turn a nice fan into worthless one.

This doesn't seem like a fix. I hardly ever clean my computer out (last time was 6 months ago, and I live in a dirty dust-ridden basement).
My fix was up my -heapsize, change model detail to high, and disable VOIP (voice_enable 0) |
