A thought
When FF gets released there is going to be a flood of 3rd party maps, so really in a sense we dont need all the maps to be done like you guys want to do. those 3 u said are just being tweaked now, they are fine. thats all we need. give us the rest later.

The game is still being made, community maps have no baring on the release date.

nah i think he meant that since there were so many 3rd party maps coming that the official maps shouldn't slow down the release date. which I dont think they are

They're not.
While we wait for a new version of 2fort there's, like... a lot of codin' gettin' done.

I disagree with this assessment even if it wasn't slowing down the game. When CS:S came out there was a flood of 3rd party remakes of original maps and they all sucked and were no fun to play. I wouldn't want to see the same happen to FF since it has enough going against it as it is.

Thing is, though, that not all of the third party maps might be immediately useable on release. Remember, the can not place the ff entities and thus have to code their maps for FF. We do not know if the devs are going to release the entities before the game comes out or if they will release the entities and the game at the same time; in the latter case, most of the third party maps would be delayed by at least a few hours to a day (depending on the free time of the mapmaker and willingness to code it right RIGHT away once the game will out d: ).

No offense but I have not waited like... 3 years... to play community maps. While there's a few good ones here and there...a lot of them lack detail, originality, optimization, good gameplay, etc. The dev's won't release a map that is short on any of that. That's why I'm not exactly enthused by this suggestion.

Yes.
The community maps are not awesome. Or at least to the point that if I was somebody coming to play this game I would stop and just wait for TF2. FF maps are good enough to keep them playing. The community maps not so much. And I would much rather wait for what the developers feel is enough of their maps than have a game now and have no community left 3 months from now. |

well the last dev update said there were two ctf maps: well and shutdown2, then a bunch of ok maps and some good ones, and i dont think anyone is officially working on other ctf maps, so I'd much rather have the game be out than wait even longer

Their idea of an "ok" map is going to be undoubtedly better than any of the maps I have seen in the Mapping section.

coding is the true gating item on the mod, not maps
roughly 8-10 are 'ready to go', not all from the devs necessarily |

I have actually PLAYED some of those community maps in FF. The merits of the game itself notwithstanding, I have not been remotely disappointed. The screenshots really do not do the maps justice. When you are sailing across the yard of 2morforever as a Solly it just feels right. Especially in the pants.

If you don't dig community maps, I'm sure the vast majority of servers will only run official maps, and your play won't be interrupted at all. |

Yeah, just look at CS:S and dust.
I plan to run a FF server when the game comes out... I will definitely not be running official maps at all on my server. I will be running all community maps. It is easy to set up a WELL 24/7 SERVER NO BOTS FAST DOWNLOADS server, but it is not easy to set up a server with a mix of official and community maps and a good map rotation. Odin's Graveyard was an example of a good rotation in TFC until they, ya know, stopped having admins around or whatever. I stay away from the place like the plague nowadays.
