Supreme Commander
Couldn't see an old post about this, but then i didnt search very far, if its been done feel free to delete/lock.
Anyone invested in this? I'm the type of person who usually obtains games via other means, but since i'm a big fan of Chris Taylors work and an even bigger fan of TA i thought this game deserved my hard earned student loan. Just recieved my copy today and installed it promptly, i started up the SP missions to have a quick look before my lecture started about an hour later. Unfortunately i have now missed everything today, i felt my time would be better spent mastering the Aeon race. The AI is extremely intelligent and learns quickly, examples would be having not only a large squad of bombers beating seven shades of shit out of my rather amatureish built base but a few seconds later a fleet of destoryers started to shell my troops as air transports placed a rather menacing bunch of tanks behind my lines of defence thus decimating me. Three pronged attacks by AI when set to medium difficulty is utter madness. Graphics seem the definition of average at first, most units being just a collection of textured polygons, however when you take into account the fact that the game has a 10,000 unit cap you see why the lesser units look so basic - my system could barely handle a full-on battle (7800gtx e-penis tiem!!!1) Anyway, for those of you who skip to the end (myself included) it seems like the best RTS since... well TA i guess, if you havent tried the demo toddle on over to www.supremecommander.com and get the demo for a look-see. enjoy |

no not really, i have a conroe E6600, 2gb ram and a 7900GTX. it runs pretty well, although there's definitely a limit to what it can take. SC will just keep throwing stuff. its a damn good game though, i must say! |

Surprisingly that is exactly what I wanted to hear. Just like when TA came, you could run it on some hardware, but you really needed a machine from the next year to do it justice. Nothing like 400+ Light Laser Cannons all firing at once.

Yep, single player demo is now available on file planet. You can see the whole Cybran tech tree AFAIK in the skirmish mode. Release is supposed to this Wednesday 2/21/07. Supreme Commander is definitely next gen gaming considering it has recommended specs for dual core processors, and has in game settings for dual displays. Even with a 7950gx2 there is only so much that my system can do with this game at 1280x1024 with fairly medium settings, specially when playing with 300+ bombers. Just figured this out: if you build energy storage all around your generators, they connect to it and make your generator generate more energy, same with mass makers/extractors with mass storage. Also: shields look orgasmic.

You can buy it above now, it was released last Friday. The Single player stories are short but sweet, totaling at 5 missions for each of the 3 factions (though the missions can take up to several hours each). The game is clearly built primarily for multiplayer as the single player missions seem to be more of a tutorial for each tech level, until the final mission where you have every tech on a huge map. CUrrently playing LAN games with housemates but will soon be moving online to test my rather lacking skills. |
