Yard ideas?
So... I've just started sketching some ideas for a new map and it's coming along nicely. However, I've hit a brick wall when thinking of ideas for the central yard. I want it to be original looking but also keep things simple, similar to what has been done with other successful tf maps (2fort has it's bridge over water, Well has it's bunker and Rock2 has it's lake).
My map is mostly set below ground level but I wanted to have a snow/ice theme outside. Anyone got any ideas? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated! |

I don't know, maybe you could take some inspiration from Quake maps and have it so that it resembles the central points of q3 maps. Basically a dm arena for the mid map but dont make it square, make it an S or something with ramps and sections to it (dont close it in though, you want to be able to conc over the area)
An example My idea generally lies around somthing similar to this in terms of style, but without the ceiling, of course, and in set in a shape other than a square/rectangle, like an S as mentioned above. |

i'm all for an idea of something like rock2, where there are two yards, one in each base, and the middle area is kept minimal. it gives the sniper something more constructive to do.

Disregard what mervaka has posted and go for a midmap that will produce some funky dming, map movement (bhop, trimping yay) AND sniping ie. my idea :P

Rofl, most people complain of boring, simple and common rectangular shaped midmaps and beg people to create unique and inspiring midmaps; I pitch my idea which, to be honest with you, is original in terms of TF mapping and then you come in and suggest that he does the same old boring shit for a mid map. After all, he wouldn't be asking for some ideas on bloody cliched midmap ideas because all he would have to do is build, as you suggest, a rectangle with a bit of water thrown in for some originality...

I see, and why would that be?
Another question: does the fact that Fortress Forever has some elements of Quake upset you? |

ignore the newbs player.
The people who don't like quake are typically the one's with a lack of reaction speed and/or aim. |

I've decided to use a bridge between 2 cliffs as my central yard. So it's all yours
