Knights of the nine id say there's about 3-4 hours worth of gameplay , a cool armor set and an awesome story. ( And a bad ass last boss. ) |

Better plan: get Shivering Isles.
Not only does it give you all the downloadable content (DLC) mods, but Shivering Isles is awesome. Edit: except Battlehorn Castle. It doesn't give you that one. But BhC sucked anyway. Kill three guys, get a castle, spend EVEN MORE MONEY on improvements? No thanks.

As for 2... An RPG in the proper sense has the following features:
There are more on top of these, but that's the baseline. Anything Elder Scrolls-esque where it's always the same decisions with the same outcome and you just do it all in a different order isn't an RPG. It's an adventure game. Just like Grand Theft Auto, just like the console Baldur's Gate series, just like countless games before it. They're good games, but they're not RPGs.

Baldurs Gate did a great job at hiding the Yes/No syndrome most RPG's have a problem with. In reality, though, there were 2 choices for the most part.
"Yes I will do this quest." "No I won't do this quest."

It's nigh-impossible to make a proper RPG out of a videogame. It gets pulled off sometimes. Baldur's Gate, despite Credge's statement, manages. You generally have options within a quest, and there are enough changes made by your decisions to warrant trying multiple playstyles, and subsequently different roles.

Elder Scrolls is one of the few games that lets you bash the shit out of everything you don't like.
