At first, map rules should not exist simply to see what works and what does not in FF. Enforcing map specific rules is something that should only happen if one side (offense or defense) is heavily supported from having a lot of a class. For example, having 3 demomen on a team could certainly pose a threat, however, if the threat makes a situation unfair regardless of what is done, then a rule needs to be put in place.

I think we'll find that a swinging engy will be a great idea for both O and D in this game. However, this should all depend on the map. We'll eventually find that having two engies will be a bit much for aardvark, even with one swinging O. We'll eventually find that having more than one demoman on a team on maps such as well and 2fort is simply too much for the map (on both offense and defense). We'll find a lot of stuff.

However, I am firmly against not having any rules to start the league with. Even if they are basic rules, they can be changed. What is disturbing is that you keep on saying that the league is built for the players, yet there are players in the league who want basic rules to be in place for the start. This troubles me.

But it's just a way of showing everyone that it's all up for negotiation

the first season will be a feeler season. I'm not against this notion of "no real rules" for the first season. I think it'll make the gameplay a little better and make for the best league experience possible in season 2.

I understand the need for rules, but you really can not determine anything until you see how actual league games play.

Have leagues ever changed their rules mid-season?

I don't think so, but I don't see why it would be so difficult. Just learn that it's something you can't do anymore.

Yeah, 'cause I figure they can run the league with no rules, and if it turns out that a rule is *really* needed, then it can be brought in mid-season.

That should be the only rule IMO: "This league is starting fresh, so there will be no rules. If clanstyle play shows a consistent unsportsmanlike behavior, then we will adapt the rules during the season to accomidate a more friendly competitive environment."

I think the main argument at hand is midmapping and ovo, both of which are allowed (there's no rule against either... there are no rules).

yea ofc most of us competive clanners that clanned in tfc we like rules like no potshooting OvO and no midmapping, but some maps like redgiant having a heavy in the yard of your base was always fine noone disliked it alot of rules like midmapping or yard D to some point was usally set by certain maps for the most part.now the potshooting i cant remember if that was actually a rule, i think it was more of a curtiousy thing. for the most part couldnt you guys just look into some old PFL or TFL rule logs? at least to get some genral questions out here to the clans signing up see what they think about some of the rules and what or what not to use.

I'm pretty sure they just want us to decide on all of the rules as the season progresses.

If we are going to decide rules as we go then this is basically a beta run for the league and should shouldn't run more than about 3 or 4 months. Right now we have four clans signed up if we run the league for 4 months thats 16 games each. That should be ample matches to see what rules work and which ones don't.

This will be an ongoing discussion throught the league...there is a leaders forum on UGC and if in week 2, 3, 12, whatever the leaders and clans decide they want to implement a certain restriction or rule then it will be implemented. This isn't a perminate thing and can be changed mid - season it just has to be brought up and voted on in the leaders forum.

I agree with one engy(two of them in aardvark = o caps)/demo/hw class per team, and no bt!

I disagree, 2 engies in aardvark in a 5v would mean you have one more defender. Probably either Demo or solly.

One spy would rape that D. that or 2 scouts working together would be able to use one to distract Sg's and one to jump in.

Or a scout, man cannon, and a demo / solly would easily take out the Sg's and engies.
