The only physics behaviour coming really close to trimping in TFC is when you reach the peak of a ramp without ducking at the top, and your horizontal speed gives you a significant upwards boost. It is not trimping however, and that term was never accepted - at least not in the euro scene.

Trimping originates in quake games, where you could run up a ramp and just jump off it to get a boost. It is emulated in FF but toned down a bit I think? Someone on the dev. team could give a definate answer regarding the distinction between trimping and double jumping, as their respective code snippets are probably separate. Aslo, you'd think the fact that you can use a double jump in conjunction with trimping should be enough to convince most people.

I think this is right where Credge is getting mixed up. The extra high jump you get from a Double Jump isn't coded that way. It seems like it, but a little experimentation will show that the code is only looking for 2 jumps in quick succession, not one jump from higher up than another. Also, developer mode will tell you when you double jump. If you stand someplace where your head is touching the ceiling, like here under this ramp in the well ramp room:
http://superjer.com/nezumi/ff_well_dj2.jpg

Then press foreward and spam the jump button, it'll show you that you're double jumping many times in a row, even though you're not jumping from a higher position. If you kinda slide to the left while doing this, you'll come out from under the ramp and pop way up into the air:
http://superjer.com/nezumi/ff_well_dj.jpg

The reason you can't normally double jump from flat ground is that it takes too long to land again. If you land on higher ground, like up on a ramp or on flat ground, OR push yourself down again somehow, you can jump soon enough to trigger a double jump. Theoretically, you should be able to do this with grenades and pipes or even an SGs push.

A double jump isn't a physics based operation like trimping, where you're essentially bouncing off a ramp and preserving momentum. Speed in one direction is converted to speed in another direction. Double jumping is entirely arbitrary, where the game decides to make your normal jump velocity much higher in a specific case. The extra speed comes out of nowhere.

Also when you double jump you loose speed, and when you trimp you maintain speed.
