May consider upgrading.

I may upgrade my computer, but only the video card.

What video card do you recommend me? Because I have no clue about the differences of the 8 and 9 series.

Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E4600 @ 2.40GHz
2.39 GHz Performance Rated at 4.67 GHz
1 Gig ram (may upgrade that to 2)
74.5 HDD

I right now have a Nvidia Geforce 7100 GS, with 512 ram.

I heard the 8800 GT is a pretty good one.

The 8800 is pretty much the standard card nowadays for anything to run decent.

And definitely get an extra gig of RAM. XP doesn't work out too well with less than 2 gigs.

XP? You need 2 gigs of ram for WINDOWS XP!?
Tell that to my laptop with 512 MB of ram.
Or tell my VM with 64 MB of ram I use to run a wifi dongle.

Totally, I started out with 767 MB, so I definitely need to up my ram a second time.

I don't know how much ram is, but I'm certain an 8800GT or whatever is around 120$, so I'm cool with throwing in some ram for my birthday.

Shit, I forgot, I can't really "buy" a video card product at some site and say I'm good. I got a custom built pc, I have to ask the guy who built it on what's possible to add.

All that you really have to consider is:

1) What kind of slot do you have for video cards? PCI, AGP, or PCIe? You can find out how to tell which is which online.

2) How big of a power supply does the card require? If you get a real monster, you may have to upgrade your power supply as well.

And as for the "2 gigs" thing, I basically meant gaming, yes - but if you use any resource-intensive application such as Hammer, Photoshop, etc. 1 gig isn't going to cut it.

Not much of an improvement over the 8800GTX, but they dont offer it anymore.. so id suggest this one.

Is there a way to find this out without contacting anybody or going online?

Yes if you still have you're manual for the motherboard, or you're friend that build it. or just open you're pc case and where you're vid card is located now it should read right next it if its a PCI <-- which i doubt, or AGP and PCI-E

This does involve going online, but if you save the pictures to a physical format somehow(print, or take a picture with a camera), then they might help.

PCI
AGP
PCI-E

Granted you still might not be able to tell from looking. However, if you right click on My Computer and go to Properties and click on the Hardware tab, click Device Manager. If you go to the properties for whatever you have under Display Adapter, it shows the location, which in mine, is the PCI bus. I think that'll tell you whether it's PCI or AGP, but I don't think it'll tell you if you have PCI or PCI-E. Now I could be wrong about it completely, but it's something to try.

This is what it says under the driver.

Beats me. I'll figure it out some other time.

You could always take a look at your physical motherboard. Usually newer motherboards will have the manufacturer and model number on there, then Google that info to see what your PC can support.

I can't open anything up. I'll just get it some other time.

Edit: Ah, CPU-Z, so I got a PCIe. although I don't really want to trust a program..

It's always better to trust what you can physically see. Just because it says one thing, and is right 99.9% of the time, doesn't mean it'll always be right.

Some of the time, yes.

Although they're not programs, but sites like SystemRequirementsLab and Yougamers have fucked up on analyzing my computer specs. It can happen.

The real question is, how much do you want to spend .. give me a number and I can build you the best PC for that price .. that is the real deciding factor .. I already know what hardware works best and what is better than what for what reasons.
