What beasts are you cowboys riding?
Just wondering what machines the development team uses in thier work?
Are we nVidiots or Retardeon users? AMD or Intels etc.... If you are using an Dell, Compaq, or, at the worst, an HP, please don't admit it... |

trepid, do you suffer stuttering in HL2? Like, random sound stutters, not necessarily after a load or save, but just be-boppin around?

Yeah, I did, but some/most of it was alleviated after they released some patch in the days that followed the initial release of Half-Life 2.
I haven't played the singleplayer in awhile, though. So, not sure how it'd act now. |

ASUS A7N8X-DELUXE
AMD Athlon 2800+ (Barton Core) 1GB PC2700 Radeon 9700 Pro CL SBLive 5.1 Gamer Edition ISDN If it's to be believed the test in HL2 said 98 fps. All I know is that this machine is approaching 3 years in age and it still runs everything nice and smooth. Doom3 in Ultra at 1024 x 768 (note: I dedicated 500 MB of RAM for image pre-caching...that helped ALOT). My next jump will involve a Socket 939 Nforce4 motherboard....GO AMD! |

Intel 3.2 GHz LGA 775 w/ HT
1 GB DDR2 4200 Nvidia Geforce 6600GT w/ 128mb Audigy 2 I managed to get like 100 something FPS at 1280x1024 with practically everything turned on (besides anti-aliasing). It is a pretty machine. |

Me? LAPTOP Centrino 1.8 GHz 1 GB pc2700 DDR radeon 9700 pro 256 MB 15.4 display 60GB 7200 RPM drive. I'm selling my desktop bc the laptop beats it in almost every game Desktop being sold: Intel P4 2.4c GHz 512 MB DDR 333Mhz (previously) Dual 80GB Seagate SATA RAID Radeon 9800 Pro 128 MSI MSI 865 Neo2 Mobo Audigy 2 ZS Selling it bc the laptop does not stutter in HL2 and loads doom3 faster than the SATA RAID. I plan to get another desktop in the summer, when DDR2 has come down in latency and when the SATA standard is 3 gigbit, instead of 150 megabit (by then we should prolly see no more ATA hard drive compliant mobos) and when PCIE is fulyl hatched and usable at full potential... |

And DDR2 will never get its latency down to the levels DDR has. The whole design philosophy behind it is a sacrifice in latency for higher clock speeds. |

Since Everyone else is... :P
Computer 1: (Gaming, programming) Hard Drives: One 60GB Western Digital 7200rpm & One 120GB Western Digital 7200rpm (may add another 250+) Intel Pentium 4 2.4Ghz w/HT (I'll upgrade when I get the money for either an AMD 64 or Intel Extreme 3.8-4.0Ghz) 1GB of PC3200 Dual Channel DDR2 400Mhz RAM SB Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Edition 7.1 Surround Sound Card Dual 19" CRT & LCD Flat Panel Monitors at 2048x768 Resolution @ 100Hz ASUS P4P800 Deluxe MB with 800Mhz FSB nVIDIA GeForce 6800GT 256MB 256Bit 16pipe (by eVGA) Thermaltake Xaser III series Case Computer 2: (Opening suspisious files, Graphic design, and programming) Hard Drive: 40GB Western Digital @ 7200rpm Dell OPTIPLEX GX720 Intel Pentium 4 2.4Ghz w/HT 512MB RAM Intel Extreme Integrated Graphics (As I don't need a high end card for this PC) Standard Sound Standard Dell Tower Case 19" Flat Panel LCD Monitor For any other information and images go here www.hlevolve.com/cp1 & www.hlevolve.com/cp2 (Both pages are fairly up to date) Both computers are running XP Professional SP2 Both on a wired 6Mbps Down/256Kbps up Cable Connection on a wirless router (The computer upstairs which isn't mine uses the wirless connection...) EDIT: As stated in the post above, the latency is higher with DDR2, but I plan on getting OZ Tech RAM for my 2nd GB which is DDR2 (I think) it has CAS speeds of 2-2-2-5 rather than my current of 3-3-3-8 (which works totaly fine for everything I've needed to run on the system, including HL2 and every other game on the system at max graphics) |
