should we update via hldsupdatetool periodically?

was just wondering if servers should update non-FF content with hldsupdatetool, or should this only happen on server update releases?

eg will changes to srcds or any other dependencies impact on the FF server if they dont coincide with relevant server file changes from FF?

If you have a backup of the older server, yes. There are bug fixes, etc that might help but sometimes an update can break things. If you have backups, you can always roll back if an update breaks something. YMMV

I guess the thing to keep in mind is that if valve's update breaks FF, then I'm sure an FF update will follow in a day or two. So, if you're OK with the server being out of the water for a few days, while many others are also, then go ahead. Otherwise, wait a few days after an update to install it

I wouldn't count on FF fixing Valve's mistakes in a few days. Backups are a far beter solution to broken updates, imo.

Make daily backups to your server files period. It's just good sense, FF server files or music or porn; never know what might happen.
