I was actually screwing around with modeling a cactus, but XSI's normal map generator makes me want to stick something sharp into my brain
I even tried some 3rd Party tools, like NVIDIA's latest tool. It crashed whenever I tried to load my models. Oh well, I'd probably get violent when I got to texture mapping, anyway. My (unfinished) high-res model: The low-res one is basically the same but w/o the ridges (and many less polys, of course) |

XSI does a lot of things that make me want to stick foreign objects in my skull.
Nice cactus though. Those things should be able to get torn to piecs by machine gun fire. |

This probably isn't a good sign:
I just loooove when automatic updates break the editor. |

Fuckers...
Hell, I'd say put a copy of Hammer on another computer, take it off the internet so Steam will never update and just network it to your other PC... Hopefully its easily fixed, would suck for everyone's mapping work to be halted just because someone decided it was time to fix something that seemed to work. |

So what's the problem in that screenshot? Updating hammer made the model all fucked up? That doesn't make sense.

That's bizarre. Looks like something out of a sci-fi flick, right before the person in question gets sucked into an ominous vortex.

Well if there's something flammable in the air, then maybe.

It's a rendering problem, mulch. ALL models in hammer get screwed up, even the little boxes for point entities. Brushes, sprites and displacements seem to be unaffected though.
The wierdest part though is that the models change when I move the camera around. There are certain directions I can look where everything seems normal then I start to turn the camera and everything just starts to shift. And it's happening in all my maps, not just this one. |
