i.e. is 'id est', isn't it?
Yes. Means 'that is' in Latin.

e.g. stands for exempli gratia. Means 'for example.'

can someone explain to the me dif. between , & : & ;?
These are sort of hard to exlpain. A comma (,) is usually used as a brief pause in a setence. Commas also seperate things in a series: "mouse, cat, dog." I suggest you take a look at this page: http://www.wsu.edu/~brians/errors/commas.html.

Semicolons ( are used to seperate two independent clauses where a comma or a period would not work as well: "It was a mild, deliciously warm spring day; and Mary decided to walk to the fair.” I suggest you take a look at this page: “It was a mild, deliciously warm spring day; and Mary decided to walk to the fair.”

Colons ( are used to connect something to what proceeded it. Also used for times, such as 11:15. See link above.

rong

semicolons are to seperate two independent clauses WITHOUT a conjunction (and, but, though, etc.)

One does not "use" an error; one "makes" an error.
