Game Boy to be killed off
Game Boy to be killed off
Wii never knew thee By: Nick Farrell Friday 12 May 2006, 07:19 NINTENDO has decided that after the success of the Nintendo DS it is finally time to slowly kill off the aging Game Boy. Apparently it is not going to withdraw the family from sale yet. Nintendo does not want to upset its Japanese market. However the boss said that there will be no more development work done on it. Talking to Reuters, Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata said that it was a waste of resources developing a next generation of Game Boy Advance, considering the strong support DS is now has. Game Boys appeared in 1989 and Nintendo flogged more than 120 million of them. Game Boy Color and the Game Boy Advance all did Nintendo proud although they were not as successful. Last year's Game Boy Micro looked backward in comparison to what was already promised by the Nintendo DS and it could not play older games. More here. |

We salute the retiring veteran. I still need me a Game Boy Advance though.
Actually what I really need is a DS. I've been hearing really good things about certain of it's games. Still, it'll be sad to see it go. |

As in, the extra "is." It's true it's sold more than the PSP, though, partly because it's been out a lot longer, and partly because it's less expensive.

Yeah, that too. They're mostly ports. There are some really good/unique ones, but not nearly enough.

I got my PSP mainly to use as a portable movie player that can also play games. Lumines can be quite addictive.

Yeah. There are, as I said, some unique games, though. Lumines, Pursuit Force, Infected, Hot Pxl, stuff like that.
Plus it has music and video capabilities, and, if you know what you're doing, you can get custom homebrew programs on there, including old console emulation (SNES, Genesis, NES, etc). With Firmware 3.00 (supposedly) they'll begin releasing PlayStation 1 games for download.

My GF bought me a GBA for Christmas. Never had a gaming portable before but I have really enjoyed it...though there don't appear to be alot of Final Fantasy type games for it. FF4 (which is actually FF2 IIRC) has been fun as was Zelda: Minish Cap. Wish there were more RPG's for it.

I suggest the two Golden Suns for good "standard" RPGs, and FFT:A and the Fire Emblems for tactical RPGs.
