Seems that FF is giving my friend trouble.

Seriously, my friend and I were trying to play Fortress Forever and well here's what is happening.
He asks for link, so I gave him the 1.1 full one, on the wiki. He installed it and it's working, just he can't see ANY servers.
Is it because he needs to update it to 1.11?

Can you tell me the correct way to download and properly install fortress forever and all of it's updates?

GIVE him the link for 1.11 full install in my sig. Then make sure he has source sdk and source sdk base installed.

Also, check whether any filters in his server browser might be active..

It also gave him errors like, Game info text is not a valid format and "You don't own/have/downloaded this third party mod"

None of it is working for him unfortunately. He's saying Source SDK is causing problems or something, since he has two accounts, whenever he runs it on his, it opens up on the other. Told him to try the other one, and the other account says something like SDK isn't installed or something. I'm not to sure of what the problem is, I think it's just his computer.

I'll check on it tomorrow and ask him about it.

He says FF does infact run, just none of the servers are responding. He doesn't understand what the Source SDK is, so he doesn't bother to try to help. He thinks it makes FF run, but I'm trying to tell him if it isn't installed, FF will cause problems, so he wants me to ask this)

I need someone to explain to me, what Source SDK has anything to do with servers.( He's wants me to ask that.) He can create a server though.

SDK = Software Development Kit. So Source SDK is the development kit for the source engine. In order to play a source based third party mod you need to have source SDK and Source SDK base installed. If he is using his friends account it probably isn't installed on his computer. Have him check his tools listing in his account and see if source SDK Source SDK base is installed or even available. We just want the info for his account not his friends. Also reply with what Games he has on his steam account.

I wonder if the installer can be set up to detect if Source SDK is installed... if not, it could prompt you "You need Source SDK to play this game."

Couldn't remember which actual one but both started Downloading when I installed 1.0. But I think that is the issue but he does say he can start a server.
I'll do a test run and rename my FF folder. Delete both source sdk/sdk base and use the installer in my sig that 4est put together. No work today so I got some time.

Ok it does auto start the DL for Source SDK base when you install it. But you do have to tell it yes of course. How come your buddy isn't posting here? Or could this mysterious friend be kenny?

Only thing I think is the problem is the fact that he's using 2 accounts on the same computer, and they're storing data and the data is a conflict... Last night he was testing something, telling me he was going to delete all data on the other account. Haven't got confirmed yet of his progress.

That shouldn't matter...I have 4 different steam accounts on my home computer and my primary one runs fine...he just has to make sure that he has everything downloaded that he needs. If SDK isn't downloaded eventhough it looks like things are working behind the scene things are getting jacked up.

^bump my cousin is having the same problem, and when he tries connecting through the steam server window, it cant connect after 4 retrys. but he is on the internet

did they try deleting the clientregistry.blob file? a lot of steam probs seem to be associated with it; deleting it will cause steam to download the latest fix, and that might help
