Ok took a while to figure it out: Jumbo frames...
I enabled jumbo frames on my gigabit segment to get higher transfer rates.
Due to I dunno what Fortress (read: HL2) can't handle it proper somehow
I disabled jumbo frames on my firewall and client....
Result: IT'S ALIVE IGOR!!! ALIVE I TELL YOU
