It seems like you are lagging, from what you are saying. Especially the part about the pipes coming from your character's stomach; mine seem to always come from the gun unless i am lagging. If you are lagging, reduce the resolution (helped me a lot).
If not, then I don't know what to tell ya, other than I have some sick cross hairs:

(Which look like the TFC logo plus a red laser light in the middle.

P.S. I was just playing around with the x-hairs, and you might want to try Shape 22 (Primary) and Shape 31 (Secondary). That or Shape 46 for the Secondary.
