Dont carve
Not sure if when you said you were carving you meant that you were using hammers carve feature. If so that is a bad idea. Interlopers has a ton of great mapping articles on this and many other points.

Rookie: Can you make a brush trigger so that when the ball goes into the drink (water hazard) it respawns to an info_teleport_destination? Shouldn't be a problem for the player just the ball.

Hey peeps, Is there a way I can reset the gravity to normal on spawn? I have a special place in the map that triggers a low gravity change but if you die and respawn you keep the low gravity..... ...

not related to your exact post but,
If you don't run lighting (vrad) I don't think your map will detect a leak and a pointfile would not be created. Try Neon's idea, delete the brush and remake...

vertex scaling
Kube see if this works for you,
Create your half cylinder, dont carve it up. With the vertex tool active and your cylinder selected, in one of the side/front views highlight all the upper vertices...

Kube, I appreciate a mapper that takes some time and adds trims and rounds edges and takes a minute to make their map look nice. No it may not add to gameplay, but anybody who makes maps will notice....
