Hello!

I might be blind, but I couldn't find a introduction thread so I'll do it here. Basically I missed out on the Quake1-3 mapping bandwagon and FF seems to convey the theme nicely. There is something about the Quake style that keeps drawing me back to it. Anyway, I hope to make some decent maps for the game and learn a lot. Hopefully there are more people like that, too. So yeah, hi! :)

Cool cool

Hi dude! :-)

Welcome! I'd love to see some Quake-themed maps for FF! :)

KubeDawg 12-01-2010 07:26 AM

Welcome and ditto to Iggy's post. We definitely could use some quake themed maps.

Thanks for the warm welcome :)
I have a couple questions. The first, does FF have it's own texture-set or does it borrow from HL2? The second, I set everything up for FF in the editor but got something like this:

Nothing draws or renders. Nothing updates. :/

ff does have its own textures yes - could do with a larger variety but there are a fair few!!

as for that problem I've had it before but cant remember what the fix was other than it was very annoying. I'm guessing it happens when you start hammer with any source game and not just FF?

I think i removed the sdk tools and reinstalled them

I remember mapping for HL2:EP2, then BAM, steam released a large update and it destroyed almost all working builds of Hammer. They fixed it... but I guess the problem still lingers. I'll reinstall SDK and see what happens.

Don't use Source 2007 or 2009, use 2006!

Cool thanks. Got it working.

Alright, so I put together a test room to get used to the texture palette. So far I'm really liking it and definitely props to the art guys who made them. I don't feel handcuffed to a theme like I would in TF2. Here are a couple screens:

What do you guys think? Is it *too* much like quake? I could have added more special effects, but for a test room I think it's fine.

I've read a lot of debates about jumppads, so I'm thinking that the Engie will be able to activate vital key jumpads for their own team. Is this idea too gimmicky? Does anyone know why selecting the jumppad in the model viewer crashes hammer?

Alright, I have a lot of reading to do about gameplay theory. I'll be scouring these forums for information. Let me know what you all think.

I love it, but I'm a quake nerd

KubeDawg 12-02-2010 05:01 PM

That test room looks great.

I can't wait to see an actual released map from you.

Majesty 12-02-2010 05:59 PM

Thanks very much. Any recommended reading material or great FF maps for reference? :)

NeonLight 12-02-2010 06:21 PM

2fort is amazingly done detail wise definitely check out that. It all depends on what kind of style you want. I'd say go Schtop-ish if you want a quake style map (futuristic look) otherwise stick to cements, concrete, and dirty/rusted metals
