Thanks to Nuk3m and all those who helped me beta test this map. It was a success. The best word to describe this map is confusing and i'll be the first to admit this... and I knew it would be but everything works as I desired. After explaining a few basics about the map, I think everyone figured it out. I'm going make up some sort of Tutorial in the loadscreen which will hopefully alleviate this in the future.

Description This map is played with allied Blue and Red against allied Yellow and Green. Each team can only capture one flag. Allies can help each other build and repair. The most confusing part is cells... you don't get any to build, unless your armory is open... when is your armory open? Whenever you cap or your flag is capped... the maingates will drop... your armory opens... and you can build in relative safety (until your allies cap or get capped).

Feedback It all sounds confusing but play it a bit and you'll get into the flow. What I really want is feedback. This is a beta release and I'm anxious to know feelings on 2 frags + 2 emps on spawn... or ideas like give some points when your allies cap?

looks nice...the colors seem a bit dull and that rock texture you using looks very stretched, but I like the idea and gameplay.

I made a splash loadscreen in an attempt to make the map easier to understand. Tell me if this helps explain things, and I'll put it in the final release.

the dull colors are great for FPS

the textures almost give it a HL1 feel

I updated the beta for an official release. Check the top link for a new zip file with new files. I smoothed some textures. Added a loadscreen as shown in previous posts. And altered the locations slightly.

I mapped a lot for TFC which is funny now some say it looks like an old TFC type map. I still struggle with how many polys I can push cause my machines ancient and I'm not used to pumping out high poly maps. I'm also not good at optimizing even though I've read up on it... it truely is something that takes knowledge of the engine (as we see even professionally published maps can sometimes have bad Frame Rates).

Also I was going for sort of a Blockfort type cartoonish look because of the nature of the map. I don't expect this to see any league play but I hope some pubs might pick it up for kicks. I always appreciate the feedback. It's one of the few perks us mappers can receive.

u guys have to be more carefull, i ve dowloaded this map trought the link in this post, now i have other server and i ve dowloaded the map trought the ugc page, same map name.. diferent sizes.. when change the version pls give it diferent names.. same name difrent map size = emptys a server!

It's probably b/c in order to get some internal things to work with the UGC site, I have to change things from .rar to .zip...I will check, but I think if you look at the actual file sizes of the .bsp's and such they are probably the same.

EDIT: yeah they are the same now...are you saying you dl'd an older version or that they are different currently?

iirc correctly something did get changed between then and now...that is probably why your seeing it.

Last night had a full server, then came this map, and map version difered for 90% of the plp in the server..
Result-- zero plp past 10 seconds, and now u have plp with the same map name, diferent versions. So it means newbies/plp that dont know how to fix it, wont be able to join/play this map and prolly gonna say "#$"# it!

Lolz Mapers pls give different names to different versions of it, cuse this kills a server in 10 seconds..

You can't update a map once you've released it. You gotta use a different name, gotta use _b1 or _rc1 when you're not sure if it's gonna be your last compile. And if you already screwed up by releasing your map with it's official name and you gotta fix something, you might even use the super lame _final eventhough it doesn't make it really clear that _final is the newest, but you can never release 2 different bsps under the same name. The only way to fix this crap now would be to include the map with the next official patch.

If there are still issues with two versions of the same map, you can just change the filename...

I just took the version from the ugc files page and changed the filenames in the zip. It's only small so making people redownload from server isn't too bad.

The map itself is unchanged, just the filename and the references in the loading screen texture. Normally when you do this you have to take care to rebuild cubemaps, but that doesn't apply in this case.
