Since I keep getting blown off and people have their own secret agendas, the map is getting released as-is.

This is the 4th beta, and probably final. It doesn't have signs to tell you where to go and it doesn't have the clothes lines like in the original due to lack of models.

Slap together some brushes for the clotheslines and i'll convert/add/edit. Post the vmf here or send link through PM or something. :)

I just watched the little avi, its def. looking nice. Should be a fun map for the new guys to FF and just pub gaming in general.

The awnings aren't blocked and the skyboxes are higher in some areas, so unless the engine blocks turrets from being placed on displacements then it should work.

I develop maps in the Ep1 version of Garry's mod because FF keeps crashing or having other weird errors when I try to build cubemaps.

Thats cool, thanks for the info and I hope it does allow that cause that was one of the fun placements for the SG as it made it harder to get at.

3D skyboxes also tend to clog the pores of your map, so if you are looking to keep it as optimized as possible, I might suggest against it, unless there is a 3D skybox that would really fit well with this map.

BSP only takes 3 seconds, VVIS ~12 and VRAD on HDR takes around a minute. It has plenty of room for extra detail in it if it's added properly.

But as for a 3d skybox, how about an Arab city. Bunch of buildings torn down

Would probably take some good time to develop but this would definatelly look awsome. It would also make the actual casbah feeling much stronger.
I think the old, huge casbah in Tunis can provide many nice screenshots and inspiration.

Haha, I was kidding of course. But if there were a couple of minarets or something visible from all over the map, it would look great and help players to stay oriented.

...More or less. All of the level geometry is finished, all that's left are the clothes lines, signs and the entities / Lua script.

If anyone wants to make a 3D skybox for the map, feel free to PM me. You must show prior examples of mapping work to even be considered. No newbs or novice mappers please. If you think you can't do it, then don't bother.

I will probably be accepting more than one applicant to see who can make the best skybox, and pick the better of them. If you are accepted, I'll give you the outline of the skybox at 1:1 scale and let you shrink it down yourself.

The map is ready for beta testing, though there's two problems.

1. The BSP is 71 MB (too much custom content, fail)
2. The server I had planed on running it on crashed and isn't going to be up for a long while.

I have a shut down FF ctf server sitting and grumbling all by itself.
I need to update it though but I can run casbah 24/7 with fast download if youre interested. EU server. Probably not the awsomest speedy server youll find but its ok. Send me a pm if you are interested or chat with me on #euroskillz @ quakenet.

I'd love to host this map.

I'm guessing that's mostly lightmaps, and you could halve the size fairly easily.

The bsp is smaller, only 60 mb and seems to download.
But I get all sorts of can't connect to VAC and "No Steam logon" failures so I can't test much. Hope it works better for you.

Looks quite nice. I did get lots of "ERROR" icons around the map... but damn, aside from that.... and the HDR being too bright, SPOT FUCKING ON!!!

It must be the crates that didn't get packratted in the BSP, I'll fix that later tonight.
