If you ask me, I think the TF2 idea of no ladders (I'm talking about official maps here) is win-win. It seems that the ladders are fucked up in TF2, so it makes sense.
In FF I don't like them much, because sometimes you can get off them, or you climb from a weird angle, or whatever. Staircases ftw! (Also, boosters can suck sometimes. It wouldn't be the first time that I've got stuck in one without being able to get off it, only to get rocket'd to death) Keep up the good work! |
maybe you could use piles of sand stacked up against the wall that u can run up to, to replace em
|
The func_useableladder entities they used mostly in HL2 are totally fucking annoying. Are people using those in custom TF2 maps?
|
Yes, people use ladders in TF2 maps. To say a few examples, TF2 Avanti has the same ladders TFC's had (near CP2, the Sniper tower), or shockingly enough, most of TF2's Warpaths have the CP2/4 ladder up to the spawn.
And yes, they are weird. You probably climb them up with a speed greater than the top horizontal speed of a mancannon + conc FF Scout. No joking. |
Ya those are tall, thin staircases. In the game's head you are going mostly forward rather than mostly up, which is why you seem to rocket.
I don't like jumppads either but I think with enough tweaking they'd be better than ladders. |
make a brush and texture it with the "ladder" texture, there ya go, its that simple and works beautifully

+1 for it looking like tfc dustbowl

I prefer RTCW/ET ladders tbh.
|
Can you make normal elevators instead of ladders that look like jet explosions of sand blasting you up?
Would be cool to see sand gysers boosting people up here and there, make em quick to rise and fall. |
