Actually it's one number with 4 DIGITS...Characters refers more specifically to either letters or elements of a character set which is more applicable to strings than a numeric value.

Combination of English and Japanese (kana and kanji). Either that or they're just that way for me because of my Japanified Windows settings (which would explain why my Matrix boot screen looks just as Engrishinated >_>)...

I think if i remember right, in the films it was ASCII text. ie random letters from some character set they used. Thats what i'd guess since unless they used a whole different language then thats all they could use o_O

(as for the mix of eng and jap, thats only for this background, i dont think i remember those being in the films)
