internet/ethernet/network etc. speeds are measured in bits ie kilobits/megabits. a byte is 8 bits so 1000 kilobits per second is approx 125 kilobytes per second. in other words if your ISP is rated at 3000 kilobits per second its actually 3000/8 which is 375 kilobytes per second generally bytes are capital KBps/MBps and kilobits are lower case kbps/mbps

The game will run smoothly, but it depends on whether you're willing to turn down the graphics far enough. Since you're playing on a fixed resolution, you'll have to turn down all the effects if it's running slowly. :/

I'm sorry but I'm gonna call bullshit on this one. 3 seconds :/
my pc takes about 3 seconds to from button to finish bios checks an stuff (an i got a 3.2gig p4 an a similar setup to you, so dont try tellin me its my crappy setup). 3 seconds is just ridiculous. Does no-one else think so?

*cough BS cough*

98 fps minimum in HL2 is hard enough to beleive, but 3 SECONDS to desktop? Maybe from standby mode. :D

right now Im working with...

amd athlon XP 1600
756 mb of ddr ram
80 gig and 20 gig hard drive
geforce3ti200
sound blaster audigy

I probably am going to have to upgrade my video card and my processor, I was thinking a ATI RADEON 9600, something with 256 mb to take most of the load of HL2 by itself. And probably somewhere around 2.8-3.0 processor. Anybody have any suggestions for me?

XP configured properly on a single 74GB raptor and a fast system boots in about 7 seconds. W/a raid-0 it could be close to that.

Athlon 64 3200+ @ 2.0Ghz Stock
DFI Lanparty-UT Nforce 4 Ultra
1GB Corsair Value Select PC3200
Gigabyte Geforce 6600GT (Gonna upgrade to ATI X800XL)
1.5/384 ADSL

Laptop:

Dell Inspiron 9300
Pentium M 730, 1.60GHz, 2MB Cache, 533MHz FSB
17" UltraSharp(TM) Wide Screen UXGA Display with TrueLife @ 1920x1200
512MB 533MHz DDR2 SDRAM
256MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(TM) Go 6800
60GB Ultra ATA 7200RPM Hard Drive
Internal CD-RW/DVD-ROM
Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200 802.11 b/g 54Mbps MiniPCI Wireless Card

Umm Sorry guys.. didnt mean to offend any one.. but unless the HL to test is lying and i live in some sort of different time dimention... All of those stats r correct. if u wanna say its BS then go ahead.. just dont be hostile, were all friends. now as for the 3 secs. its true... i have a REALLY hard time everytime i try to go into my bios cuz i gotta push my on button... then start frantically tapping DEL cuz its really easy to miss. this is how it goes: i press the button... my BOOT UP screen is on "show details" where there isnt a Mother Board logo but it lists all my drives my ram and so on... any way that screen just flashes for like 1 or 2 seconds with everything found, then the WIN XP PRO load screen Flashes for like 1 or 2 seconds while the loading BAR with those three cube things not even moving. then im at my desktop, so its like 3-4s or 5 if its gonna make you flip out less, WHATEVER point is: its SMOKING FAST and i encourage anyone that is wondering how to upgrade their comp, to set this 10,000rpm RAID 0 config up if they can. Im being honest.. but i dont really care if u believe or not cuz im wicked happy about my system. now as for the FPS in HL2 ill post a screen in a sec i just gotta go and capture it.

THx Dospac.. but i dont really care if they believe, point im trying to make is that 10,000rpm hds in raid 0 rock.

Now for ALL of you that flipped out at me about bsing... i dont BS... here r OTHER customer reviews:

"EXTREMELY FAST!!! I am no longer left staring at Windows boot up screen...boots up in under 7 seconds!!" (thats with only 1 drive... 2 of em in raid 0 is much better.)

"Got the hard drive installed without issue. First time loggin into windows, I was from the boot sreen to useable in 4 seconds. "

"Really, really fast... Windows and context menus open instantly with this drive, and my entire system seems more responsive. As far..."

but dont take my word for it,go here to see reviews for ur self:
http://secure.newegg.com/app/CustratingReview.asp?DEPA=1&item=22-144-160

PS: try finding the one that some guys says it actually increased his fps in a game from 35 to 80!

pshh 101 is nothin. What res and AA/AF settings? I get ~120FPS in 1280x1024 8xAF 2xAA w/HL2's settings maxed. However, in-game is a different story. In CS:S I average 80-100+ fps but it dips into the 50-60 range w/lots of action and players on screen.

Res is same as urs and AA/AF maxed this is without my card overclocked though cuz Vtuner 2 crashed my sys once and now im waiting for the new version and another case fan b4 im going to OC it to >Ultra speeds. ATI X800 XT PE is workin out for ya i see... how much u get it for? when i baught my 6800gt at 420somthing then X800 was like 700somthin bucks.
